Icons for maps on SD card

Nils Degerman shared this question 7 years ago
Answered

I have moved my offline maps to a SD card on my tablet, but I don't understand where I can put the Icons for my own POI.

On my Android phone they are stored in the map named Locus and in a another map named Icons and then I can use them, but it doesn't work on the tablet

Hi Nils,

POI database has to stay in the inner memory - Android doesn't allow full read/write permissions to it on external card, which the database needs, otherwise it doesn't work. Locus/Icons folder does not store points but just cursors or navigation icons.

Or maybe I just don't understand your query because you mix terms like icons and maps. Please, clarify.

Sorry for my mixing. I have made a folder called Icons in which I have all icons I need. I have added this folder in the folder "Locus" in my inner memory, but when I try to add the icons to my POI via the program, they will not show up. I go to Points and then click on Edit. Normally I can click on the Icon and then all icons show up, but know I just get Locus and Garmin icons.

When I do the same on my Samsung 7 phone, I can see all icons I have put in the folder Icons

I have added a print from the screen in which you can see where the folder icons is put

Hi Nils

pack all your custom icons to e.g. "my icons.zip

and copy this zip file to locus/icons

after a restart of locus you should see this folder beside "Locus" and "Garmin"for use

Thanks Wolfgang, exactly - it took me a while to understand what was Nils' issue. Of course, custom icons usage is described here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:customization:icons

I have now made a folder" icon_pack.zip" in which I have stored the icons I want and they are in PNG format. This folder I have added to Locus/icons and then restarted the program, but I can't find them when I open Points and then Edit/Edit Folder. I still only get Locus points and Garmin. what mistake am I doing.I have added two screenprints so you can see how I added the folder

Hi Nils

your packed zip consist 3 folders

your icons must be stored direct inside zip folder

see attached modified zip

Hi Nils, exactly as Wolfgang put it - no subdirectories in the zip pack - without them it works OK.

Hi Michal, now I have all icons directly in the zip folder, which is inside the icon folders in Locus folder, see attached pictures, but it still doesn't work. I have copied exactly as is on my Samsung Galaxy 7 phone, where it works pefectly, but on the Samsung tablet A it doesn't work. Can there be something else in the tabletSorry for keeping you bussie with this matter

Hi NIls,

I don't understand why you have those .map files in the Icons folder - .map files are vector maps and they belong to the Locus mapsVector folder. Maybe they are the reason why it doesn't work. Check this:
