Import attachments to cache automatically
Hello,
maybe I missed this feature but I wondered if there is an option to automatically add attachments to a cache. As far as I can see, you have to open a listing, scroll to the tab "attachments" and there you can choose files or images to attach to that listing. That's ok, if there is only 1 or 2 files. But for a whole bunch is quite painful. So I wondered if there is a way to store the files into a special structure (like for the images in a listing) and the attachment tab recognizes these files.
Also the naming of the attachments you add during caching (the pictures you take for example) could be stored there and sorted by GCCode.
If there is such a feature already, I would be glad if someone could point it out for me. If not, I would like to open a feature request.
In any case: thanks a bunch for that great tool!

Good day Dragon,
exactly what you need is currently not possible. Here is depends on how skilled you are and how much time you wants to invest into this task. Best what may be do from my point of view is:
Maybe there exists some tool that is capable of doing this automatically, but I'm sorry, I'm not aware of it now.

Thanks for the hints! I could most likely do this but then the images show might show up in the tab "images" of the geocache data. I would like to have it in tab "attachments" since I would like to use other files, just as if I added it via Locus directly.
I will dig into it a bit more, maybe a workaround will pop up.

This is correct, such images really appear only in tab "images", not directly as attachments.
Your "idea" anyway does not have any possible workaround. Attachments are defined in "waypoint" object and stored in database and this part is stored as binary data, not simply as text => almost impossible to edit directly.
I can imagine adding support for such feature only in case, it will be somehow usable for more users, anyway in this case it seems to be really complicated. It ma need a lot of work on user side to prepare required data in required structure.
I'm also not convinced about use-case. Why using GC Offlinizer is not enough useful for you?

GCOfflinizer downloads the images attached to the listing, including Spoilers - as far as I could see. But spoilers are not always marked as such or are there. So most of times you have to download hints from the gallery (or the spoiler photo is in the geochecker) and put it onto your device. Or even files with special instructions or codes. These I would like to have in the attachment tab for a more comfortable access.
For my Garmin, for example, I put images in a special structure on the device (last two letters of GC code) and can load the images from within the listing. The same I would like to do with Locus.
Since I was able to find the images I made with the camera and attached directly on the phone, I thought it would be possible to do the other way round and scan for files in special directories.
Well, if it is not possible or not a feature more user want , I understand. I just thought it might be a nice-to-have. But of course it's no must-have.

Hello,
understand, thank you for explanation.
Maybe you should give a try to this option: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/spoiler_pics_in_locus . I made it a longer time ago to support application called "Spoilersync". Not sure if still exists ... anyway it may be useful for you I believe ( check my first post ).

Hello,
I am using the option menion mentioned above since the beginning of using Locus Pro a few years ago.
For me it works and I am 100% satisfied with this solution altough I am using the app "SpoilerDownloader" to get the spoiler pictures ;-).
@Menion: So please do not think of removing this feature from Locus Pro.

Beside the fact that both tools did not work for me some years ago (never found out why), they download images marked as spoiler from gc.com, right ?
But as stated, I do have files and images which are not marked as spoiler images because they are in the gallery or in the geochecker. Or in files.
At the moment, I do collect these pics manually, put them into my GSAK and export them in a folder structure (folders with the last letter of GC Code and second last one), which is readable by my Garmin as soon as uploaded onto the device (but just working for images not files). The same procedure I would like to have with Locus: putting the folder onto the device, starting Locus and: here you go.
Many thanks for the hints, which will work for real spoiler images, but not for others. (or do I miss something ?)
As said, I understand and know that handling binary data is not easy. So, no problem with the feature request being refused ! Also IT has boundaries - that I know well.

Hello,
understand. I'm sorry, but feature to support exactly certain type of structure is currently not planned. I anyway still suggest to use system of "spoilers" html files mentioned before, as best possible alternative.
It's quite simple. For a cache GCXYXYXY, just create a file "GCXYXYXY.html" and place it into Locus/data/geocaching/(optional subdirectory)/ directory. Locus then display this html file in separate tab. You may info this html file add relative links to pdf or other files stored in same directory as this html files and it should work.
May this be useful for you?

Hi,
I am using SpoilerDownloader to get spoiler pictures to my pc.
I am using a macro for GSAK written by myself, which creates among other things the "GCXYXYXY.html" files for Locus.
The macro puts links of all spoiler pictures downloaded via SpoilerDownloader in "GCXYXYXY.html". In addition it extends the "GCXYXYXY.html" with the content of an "GCXYXYXY.txt" file (a simple ASCII-File) if present, containing the steps of the solution of a mystery cache for example. Finally it optionally extends the "GCXYXYXY.html" file with links to my own pictures of the cache..
Then I put the created "GCXYXYXY.html" files in a "Locus/data/geocaching/<GSAK-DatabaseName>" subdirectory. And the (spoiler) pictures in the corresponding subdirectory where the links of ""GCXYXYXY.html" points to on my spartphone.
