Include CyclOSM map tiles

Hi,

(Disclaimer: I'm one of the main maintainer of the CyclOSM style)

What about including CyclOSM (https://www.cyclosm.org/) map in the available online map tiles?

CyclOSM is a new bicycle-oriented map based on OSM data, aimed for both urban cycling as well as touring. It is fully open-source (cartocss code is at https://github.com/cyclosm/cyclosm-cartocss-style/) and it is hosted by OSM-France (French chapter of the OSM Foundation). The current tiles cover the planet and they are live updated with OSM data.

The tiles are available at

https://dev.{s}.tile.openstreetmap.fr/cyclosm/{z}/{x}/{y}.png

(where {s} is to be replaced by "a", "b" or "c") and they are available under conditions similar to the osm.org tiles (https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/). Beside the usual OSM contributors attribution, ideally the tiles should have an attribution to "CyclOSM & OSM-FR".

Thanks!

Best,

Hi,

thank you for an idea and for interest in the Locus Map app. I'm sorry we decided to not include this service into Locus. However our users can still manually add it using custom provider settings. https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:advanced:customization:online_maps

Thank you for understanding

Best regards, Petr

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback on this. Would it be possible to have more details about the leading leading to this decision? The map layer is already included in other apps such as OSMAnd and I am wondering wether it might be an idea for later, or wether CyclOSM simply does not fit for Locus use cases.

Thanks

why not? would be very useful

It wasn't easy decision but I have to say that there are several OSM based map services that focus on cycling (OpenCycleMap, Hike&Bike, MTB Europe). There are also the offline LoMaps or OpenAndroMap maps that can offer the similar content. However I can open this idea for voting...

Maybe it's my mistake but for me it's a completely different view.

How would I achieve something like this: https://tools.geofabrik.de/mc/#14/47.4677/9.6794&num=4&mt0=cyclosm&mt1=hike_bike&mt2=cyclemap&mt3=here-map

With Openandromaps or the other alternatives?

I understand that it might only be a theme issue though.

With OpenAndromaps you can show cycling routes. That's enough.

That's not the same, did you compare it?Cyclosm shows path information along cycling routes, it's much more visible (I'm using both).

@Christoph - would you please write more info about information what's vital for you, etc

If you compare the maps, Cyclosm is much cleaner, the routes are much more visible.

I understand though that this could be possible by adapting a theme?

Maybe the ticket author can comment

Hi,

The goal of CyclOSM was to have a FOSS multi-purpose cycling map (trekking, commuting etc). It is a kind of (enhanced) OpenCycleMap FOSS alternative. The main arguments are in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CyclOSM.

Concerning the cited alternative renders:

* OpenCycleMap is non-free (neither free software nor gratis) and is not evolving much. It lacks support for a few (recent?) features in OSM tagging such as shared lanes, some types of bicycle parkings, etc.

* Hike&Bike, https://hikebikemap.org/ is currently down for me, but from my past experiences it is very much targeted towards trekking. City features are not as predominant, and it mixes pedestrian and cyclist together whereas they have very different needs on long distance travelling.

* MTB Europe is very good for planning MTB trips but heavily specialized. CyclOSM is a general purpose cycling map.

For the record, the CyclOSM style is already available in many tools (OSMAnd, JOSM, etc) and will be the default preset for French users on http://brouter.de/brouter-web/ in the next release.

Feel free to ask if you have any more question or need extra details. Best,

I see and thank you for the info. I re-opened the idea for voting. Thank you

CyclOSM is the only online renderer that I am aware of that renders the difficulties of Mountain Bike trails (as colour coded trails similar to what openandromaps does). For example:

https://www.cyclosm.org/#map=18/-36.74847/146.96952/cyclosm

It also gets map updates in near real-time unlike Opencyclemaps which can take weeks to show new trails that have been mapped.

I also use Openandromaps however that is also slow to get updates, with the Australian maps only getting updated a few times a year.

Can someone please explain to me how I can import cyclOSM into Locus Map?

As far as I know I need a .XML file.

But with which content?

Thanks in advance
