Incomplete tiles displayed for British Columbia and Alberta maps

I'm new to Locus, specifically trying it out for up coming hiking trip in Jasper (Canada) area.

Having downloaded two map variants, LoMaps and OpenAndroMaps, of Alberta and British Columbia I'm seeing incomplete tiles displayed for big chunks of the area. I am switching between maps and themes and the tiles affected at various zoom levels seem to be consistent.

Have attached couple of screenshots.

Is this a baselayer mapping glitch, an issue with Locus or something else?

Thanks

Rob

LoMaps and OpenAndroMaps are based on OpenStreetMap, a crowd-sourced mapping service.

Both maps are showing precisely what OpenStreetMap has on record for that area. In other words, the islands of green around Kimberley and Fernie in a sea of white represent the (incomplete) info in OpenStreetMap.

A contributing OpenStreetMap editor would have to add the missing information in order for it to (eventually) appear in LoMaps and OpenAndroMaps.

Thanks Taras,

That makes sense n terms of both being derived from Open Street Map. Many years ago I was a contributor to OSM in building out mapping in my local area, but it's been a while and am out of touch of now. Most of my hiking is within UK where I benefit from excellent Ordance Survey. We'll see how I go in Canadian Rockies with some intermittent map tiles.

What I would do is contact an outdoor store in Calgary (I assume that's your starting point) and ask them to recommend a detailed paper map (or a digital one if they have it). Maybe there's a local hiking club that publishes a good one that's updated regularly.

To get you stated, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) has stores across Canada (three in Calgary). Search their web-site for "maps" and you'll get several results for Alberta and BC. Phone numbers: https://www.mec.ca/en/stores

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Dear Rob.

We are sorry for the troubles with maps in Locus app.

There is important to use internal themes for Lomaps maps and and OpenAndroMaps themes for these maps. In case, there is still problem with themes, please, contact us. Our map specialist will try to fix the problem with themes.

Kind regards

Hana

Thanks Hanas,

Seems Taras has identified incomplete base OSM data so think it is what it is. Just unfortunate that areas I'm planning to hike in our incomplete.
