Increase volume of sound file attached to a saved point

Hello, and best wishes for 2017.

Approximately one year ago, Jochen Konietzko mentioned the bad quality of the sound when directly recording the sound attached to a saved point (this feature is extremely useful in my case, as I can directly record comments on locations that I am exploring, without the need to take written notes, or to switch to an other Android application to do the record and then do a time match to relate location to record).

On one of my 3 phones, I can relate to Jochen concern.

The problem is not Locus, but the phone microphone itself: when playing back a recorded sound the volume is too weak. On the incriminated phone, I have to speak loudly and very close to the microphone to be able to understand what I said when I play back the record: not practical.

A possible idea could be to implement the same solution that is presented by several Android sound recording applications: a user defined recording volume increase (several of the sound recording applications allow a 20 dB boost of the volume). This could be presented to Locus user either through Locus settings, or directly on the sound recording menu with a gain slide bar.

Regards

Good day Alfonico,

I'm trying to find out some more information about such improvements in sound volume. Android itself does not have any options for this, so it needs to be done manually by developers.

Because on Google Play exists applications, that do this task ( recording of audio ) a lot better then Locus Map may do in future ( like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grace.microphone ), I'm sure it will be a better alternative solution, using any external application.

I perfectly understand your idea anyway time that I spend on this improvement will be a very high and because it is not a "problem" and mainly not on all device, this seems not to be a good deal.

Sorry and thanks for understanding.

Hello

Many thanks for your reply. I did some more digging, and eventually found an obvious solution, after investigating some far too complicated options.

In case somebody else has the same issue and is as "Android idiot" as I am, the following could help.

On some Android devices, the volume buttons only control some of the sound volume levels (for example speakers,).

Other volume levels have to be accessed through the device "settings", "sound", "volume" (or similar setting menu steps).

In my case, what did eventually improve the quality of the recorded sound was to increase the "Music, video, games & other media" volume (on my device this is not controlled by the sound volume buttons). This drastically changed the volume of the recorded audio on all audio recording applications, including Locus.

Regards.

ah, sometimes problems has really simple solutions :).

Glad you found this option.
