Is there a way to go back on steps taken editing tracks?

I'm currently in the dark here with the track editing process as mysterious as it is I'm having to experiment and doing so I somehow added unwanted points to my track. I'd like to go back a step if possible

it depends if you are in route planner or track editor. In route planner, the back/forward buttons are in the upper left corner of the screen or you can remove last added routepoint by the "-" button in the lower left corner. The back/forward buttons are active during the whole proces of route planning until you save your route.
If you are in track editor > Insert/edit trackpoint tool, the "back" button is in the upper left corner as well but only when the tool is active. When you confirm the alteration, the edit is not reversible.
