Limit the geocache log

It seems that there's a limit on how long a geocaching log is. The error says that there's a limit of 4000 characters, but 3999 seems to be too much as well? (3945 characters succeeded)

I suggest to add a counter (like the twitter way) so that you can see how many remaining characters you have or how many characters you're over the limit. It's not clear how many characters/words you have to rewrite to go below the 4000.
