Line of sight

Hello Locus,

I would like to have an ground level profile incl. the showed direct line between an selected POI (or an free taped point within a map) and the map center like this:

https://www.bluemarblegeo.com/knowledgebase/global-mapper-18-2/Path_Profile/PathProfile_LOS.htm.

This should be calculated on the fly - when I move the map.

With that, I could check for example what hill top I can see from a position.

And if I could set an individual additional offset on ground level on both ends, then I could correct wrong ground level values and (more important) line of sight between a television tower and an other higher buildings or towers.

I miss described feature also in locus and therefore support your request. Currently I use peak finder app instead which shows visible hills arround your position, too.

Hello Peter and others,

I've just merged the same idea from Pavel. 8 votes, it is starting to be a nice interesting challenge :).

Hello Menion,

thanks - sounds good. :)

Tell me, if I can help with testing.

What I found similarly very helpfull - as an additional idea ;): if you can do the point to point calculation, then you could do that for the whole 360° area around a point (up to a given distance) too. The result could be put as an overlay on the map like here the red area (Visibility Analysis):

I was immediately thinking about "visibility area" around defined point as well. That's what I called "challenge" :).

I haven't found any better examples than following pictures from OTBSAF (army simulation software):

I am sorry, that was about radio waves distribution 🙈. Meaning is the same, but forget it... Your 360° idea is awesome! ;)
