Linking to Locus from other app

Is it possible to link to Locus from another app, like when linking to Google Maps with the Google universal link?

Hi "post",

in a way, yes. When for example you place a KML file on internet and create a URL linking to this file on a website, tapping this URL in a mobile browser offers Locus as one of the apps that can handle this file.

So there is no other way than creating a kml file, uploading that and then link to that? Seems like a lot of work for something that should be simple.

Any plans of adding a better way of doing this?

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I gave you just an example how to link to Locus. Locus is a standalone app without its web background, unlike Google Maps. Or will you give me an example how you imagine the linking should appear?

I imagine that it should work like most others do it:

Waze: https://waze.com/ul (https://developers.google.com/waze/deeplinks/)

Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1 (https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/urls/guide)

Here: https://share.here.com/l/LATITUDE,LONGITUDE (https://developer.here.com/documentation/deeplink-web/topics/share-location.html)

You could have https://share.locusmap.eu/LATITUDE,LONGITUDE or https://locusmap.eu/share/LATITUDE,LONGITUDE

And then you tell Android to forward those URL-s to Locus.

That would make it really simple to link to Locus from other apps.

Best regards,

Thomas

Good day,

in Locus Map is already support for some kind of deep linking. It depends on what you wants to achieve. Seems we miss some nice summary page like Waze have, anyway I'll try to point you on correct places.

You wrote about linking from another app. In this case, you may give a try to a new system that allows some advanced features: https://github.com/asamm/locus-api/wiki/Action-tasks-(Broadcasts)

You may also post a basic "map geo link" to Locus Map in same way like to Google Maps.

Anyway some universal Url that should be directly forwarded to Locus Map (as you suggested like https://share.locusmap.eu/LATITUDE,LONGITUDE), currently does not exists, but sounds like a good idea, thanks.

If none above will be usable for you, feel free to write to me more specific requests and I'll try to be helpful.

The share.locusmap.eu example would be perfect. Please let me know if you decide to implement that.

I've looked through that github wiki before, but couldn't find anything I can use.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi,

with the web portal page, we finally have a universal URL for direct open of the web/app.

Format:

https://web.locusmap.app/loc=<lat>:<lon>:<optional name>
In case, you click on this link on the device with Locus, since Locus Map 4.5, the app should handle this link. Otherwise, web planner will be opened.

Gives me a 404 on web.locusmap.app - has something changed?

And LM4 says "Unknown URI parameter".

Link was like: https://web.locusmap.app/loc=51.23456:7.56789:Test

Ah sorry Tapio, my mistake.

Give a try to: https://web.locusmap.app/loc/51.23456:7.56789:Test

Hmm good point Roman, seems that your solution works as well. And to be true, I do not know which one is correct and prefered. @Ondřej Janata , help us here, thanks.

But the usability! Bottom part obfuscates half of the screen, just checking map is not fun this way.
