I am really excited about this locus live-tracking feature, but I don't want people I don't know tracking me. I understand this is in its beta version, so I was just wondering if there is a timeline for the security protocols so I can have only verified friends tracking my movements?

we are currently working on an extensions called "Rooms", where only owner of created "room" will define who will be there, so who will see you and other people in same room. This feature will be available to everyone with small monthly fee. Work is in progress, estimate release to public is till end of May if all went well.
