Locus 3.38 not displaying maps correctly or at all

Ian Buday shared this problem 4 years ago
Solved

Latest version I notice has a new map engine. This does not work on my device (s7 edge). Maps are either displayed at a fixed zoom level then become pixelatied when zoomed in or its a blank grid. This is the case with both offline and online maps. I need to install the previous version which worked. Can you provide a link to the apk and look into this problem

I have cleared the app data using android system and restored a backup. So far seems to be working correctly

Looks as though the issue is with the method of using zoom. If I double tap, that's when the above issues occur. If I use pinch and nip gestures seems to work OK. Zoom buttons also seem to be intermittent as to whether that works

I confirm the issue with double tap on raster maps: current layer is zoomed instead of going to next zoom layer.

The resolution of online maps is not the same at the same zoom level and percentage regardless of the method of zoom used. I have another phone running the previous version so can do a direct comparison side by side. There is more on display / higher resolution on the previous version

Hi guys,

unfortunately, I do not understand what exactly is the problem in the latest Locus Map version. Is anyone from your able to create a short video that demonstrates this problem and help me to understand/explain what happens on your device? (nice tool for creating a video on device). Thank you.

I have two problems with new version of Locus. First LoMaps are very slow, zoom in, zoom out,...

Second. Overlay offline Strava map over LoMaps looks incorrectly, see screenshot

Garmin img maps are also completely unusable, with overgrown labels.

I have a transparent map online overlay and the zoom gets out off sync with the base map.

Openandromaps contour line looks bad

Two videos attached. First one using online osm. If you double tap then the map doesn't move to the next zoom level. Using two finger gestures works but the map is still not at the same resolution as using previous version of locus at same zoom level. I have another phone running the previous version. Second recording shows same behaviour on offline map

Good day guys,

new version 3.38.3 release today should solve hopefully all possible problems you may have during last days. Thanks for patience and sorry for some troubles.

If you still won't be satisfied with how maps look like or behave in latest 3.38.3 version, here are a few tips:

  • automatic scaling: may be disabled in Settings > Maps > Advanced features > Optimized raster map resolution
  • slower zooming: check automatic loading in Settings > Maps > Offline maps or alternatively you may try to disable some map animations in Settings > expert settings > Smooth interface
  • incorrect display of 512x512px online maps: 512x512px tiles with same indexes (x, y) as for 256x256px does not make sense. Previously it worked more like an accident then an intent. Do make it work correctly, it is needed to use the method I described here.

Wish you a pleasant experience and no more serious problems.

I'm sorry, but my problem is allways the same.

Also in version 3.38.3 the STRAVA-heatmap overlay (SQLitedb) is not in correct resolution. To disable in settings > Optimized raster map resolution takes no effect. The device is an Samsung A3 (2017) with resolution 720x1280 and Android 8.

I'm sorry Jochen but I still think that in Locus Map is no problem. If you somehow download custom maps defined as 512x512px in standard X/Y system used for 256x256px tiles, it just cannot work. As I wrote, in previous Locus Map versions was different more tolerant handling of maps so it worked, but it cannot work now. Your custom online configuration has to be improved/fixed to make it work properly.

I may write more precise description of why this definition is wrong and why it simply cannot work, if there will be interest.

Any hints as to why a Mapbox layer will no longer display correctly?

Do not know Jeffrey, it is not officially supported map in Locus Map and I did not made this online map configuration. Looks anyway again like 512x512px problem.
