Locus Map 3.38 doesnt close normally

In v. 3.38, Locus Map doesn‘t close normally any longer. If I try to close it e.g. by swiping up / sideways, the L in a circle still appears in the status bar, with the message „Locus Map is running“. If I try to close the app by hitting the back button twice, the circled L disappears, but upon tapping the overview / toggle button, the app is still there. Only if I perform both actions, 1. exit with double tap on the back button, 2. tap overview button and swipe, the app seems to close. I‘m running 3.38.2 on Moto G7 plus (Android 9). „Run Locus Map as a service“ option is not turned on.

Hi,

we are sorry for the inconveniences and we are working hard on fixing the bugs. Please update to Locus Map 3.38.3. and let us know if the issue is gone or not. Thanks!

Hi Michal, thanks for investigating the issue. I updated to 3.38.3 (and restarted the phone), but the problem is still there. Best regards,

Hi George,

the app is correctly closed only by double tapping the "back" button. If the app stays in the app list, it doesn't matter - it's just a list of recently used apps for quicker re-initializing them. Locus Map doesn't consume any energy in this state, you can verify it in the battery status.

Hello Michal, thanks for your response. That behaviour is different however from what it used to be previously, right? If I remember correctly, you could close the app by swiping before, except when the „run Locus Map as a service“ option was enabled.

I see the double tapping "back" barely as a work around and not a fix for this issue. I don't want to open locus every time to be able to close it because I (and I assume most android users) usually do this by swiping or by using the "close all" option provided by the system. If I wanted what locus now forces me to do, I'd tick the "run as service" option. Let me be clear: If this would be any other app I'd instantly wipe it from my phone. But I heavily rely on this software and also paid for it. If I wanted software that does what it wants and not what I want I'd buy an Iphone. Please fix this.

Hi guys,

yes, we made changes in some background services due to prevent system killing of Locus. Anyway, the described behavior is obviously not wanted so let's analyze your problem more thoroughly:

- what message exactly do you see in the notification bar after swiping the app out? Is there information "connect with add-ons" or just plain "Locus Map is running"?

- go to Locus settings > Miscellaneous > Connect with add-ons - is it switched on or off?

Hi Michal,

„Connect with add-ons“ was switched on (must be the default setting?); when swiping, I see the circled L, and the message says „Locus map is running“, and „connect with add-ons“ below that. When I disabled the „connect with add-ons“ option, the circled L is no longer there, and I can close by swiping. So I take it that is the intended behaviour? Could you please let me know what the „connect with add-ons“ setting does; can I use add-ons normally when it is disabled, e.g. the multi cache calculator or geocaching add-on? Thanks,

best regards

Hi George,

thank you for the additional info. "Connect with add-ons" is necessary for smooth run of add-ons like Geocaching4Locus or wearable add-ons. With this Locus communicates (changes periodic updates) with the add-ons. When you swipe the app off, this protocol obviously stays open which is indicated in the notification bar. Without this protocol the add-ons don't work.

Hi Michal,

thanks for the explanation. I went and checked my old phone which has 3.37 installed. There, „connect with add-ons“ is also turned on, but the behaviour is different in that there is no circled L in the status bar, and no notification „Locus Map is running“ / „connect with add-ons“. I can close the app by swiping. I assume that is what you meant by „...changes in the background services to prevent system killing of Locus“? If those changes were necessary, as far as I‘m concerned, I can live with that; not sure how other users feel. Thanks!

best regards

Hi George,

yes, the changes in the background services mean that some of them were moved to forefront level of which the side effect is the "L" notification informing about connection to add-ons. Nevertheless, we are exploring options how to make it less obtrusive. Thanks for understanding.

Michal
