Locus maps pro and roadbook navigation support
Answered
I have locus pro and I use it with my motorcycle everytime.
Next may I'm planning to use it for a 3 days trip navigating with a road book. I will record the track and I'll use a locus personal dashboard to check for distance, compass, gps point, etc.
In case I don't pause the track while I take a detour or if I don't follow the route right I'll have to reset the distance to the previous roadbook waypoint.
Is there a function to set the track distance to a certain number? or another variable related to the track that could add distance starting from a certain number (or zero from the beginning) and could be reset?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
track recording records the track you ride along. You can shorten the record by deleting parts of it, you can merge more track records if they follow one another. Locus displays the track distance that was ridden and that was recorded. It's not possible to alter the distance - it's always given by the track. So if you make a detour and you don't want to record the extra kilometers, stop recording, save the track and when you're back on the route after the detour, start recording again. Later you can merge the recorded parts into one.

Hi, Michal.
First of all, thanks for your answer.
Yes, you are completely right. That's exactly the problem.
(Situation 1) I take a detour while in the right road book track and I forget to PAUSE the locus track (if I stop it, I lose the distance already travelled or I would have to add it in my head while interpreting the road book while moving.) In that case, when I go back to the previous roadbook waypoint I can not reset any distance variable (not asking fot the track specific) to keep on going from a certain roadbook point with a certain distance. In French or Spanish the word to say it is ("décaler" the distance which I don't know how to translate better than to reset it... for example on a tripit specific hardware it can be done that way.)
(Of course, if I pause the track and after my detour I restart it again, everything will be correct but while driving a motorcycle, that can happen.)
(Situacion 2) I don't PAUSE the track because I don't know that I am following a wrong track after some time. Then, somehow, I found that I'm on a wrong track and then I have to go back to a previous good roadbook waypoint and I have to restart from there, "reseting" the "distance" variable to a certain absolute number.
I know this is not already in Locus, or at least I don't know if it is possible, so the mail was to ask just in case it was somehow possible.
Thansk again and best regards.

track recording and following a route are two independent processes. There's no function like "record the track when I'm on the route and don't record when I'm not". I'm afraid you have to manage this manually. Either by pausing or stopping and saving per parts. Or, you can record the whole track and later edit it - delete unwanted parts.

I'm not following a route in locus. I'm following a route in a road book (it's road book navigation, as in the Dakar competition). I just use locus to save my route and as a dashboard.
Based on your answers I guess what I'm asking is not possible with current implementation in Locus.
Thanks in any case.

It's as you say - the feature you're seeking is probably too "Dakar-specific". Re-setting distance after getting back to some previous recorded spot is not among them.

Sure but "Dakar" was just an example for easier understanding of roadbook navigation. I thought it could also be useful for bicycles and general competitions (bike or trail.)

there's a topic that probably demands the same as what you expect: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/tripmaster_plugin_for_roadbook_trips_rallies - so vote for it (and wait :)
