Locus keeps running after explicitly exiting, drains battery

chaoscommander shared this problem 10 years ago
Not a Problem

Whenever I run Locus (free version, but I guess this goes for both) on my Samsung Galaxy S (OS: Android 4.2.2/cyanogenmod 10.1.2), it will keep running in background even after I told it to exit. The application appears to have exited and starting it again behaves like it did, too, but the OS app manager still shows the process "android.menion.locus" to be running. If I don`t manually force the process to terminate, it just keeps running and draining my battery at an insane rate, no matter if GPS is turned on or off, even though it isn`t actually doing anything. This has been consistent with 2.17.0 and previous versions I had installed.

Hi chaoscommander,

I can call myself a battery junkie. But I do not observe such any running Locus process if I shut it down (not via task manager but by Locus`s exit procedure = back key and confirm in case it is configured).

Are you really sure Locus isn`t doing anything (think of parking function, track recording. guiding and possibly even more stuff which doesn`t come to my mind at this moment)?

I tried exiting with explicitly no navigation or other process running, and again exiting with a route currently being navigated. Interestingly I couldn`t reproduce my problem either way. So it appears that this only happens sometimes. I do believe that I never left anything running when it happened, so.. I`m confused! Does no one else experience this?

I am also exiting Locus Pro via back key and confirming EXIT. Task manager does not show Locus running.

Settings>Aps>Running does not show Locus running

You have not mentioned if anything else is running after being shut down.

I have seen this problem mentioned by Samsung owners on other app sites such as Trapster,Waze,,TuneIn Radio,Pandora,Scanner Radio..

Guys, two things ...

1. Applications on android lives own life ... what Locus do, it mean that it close itself completely after close, it quite rare and mainly it`s not recommended method by Google itself!! Application should be closed by back button and system should remove them from memory when needed. Apps you see in list of running apps do not mean that they live and consume memory and CPU power. It should just mean that they just lay and wait, till system will need more memory and remove them.

2. From my, and not just my, experience, is known, that battery monitor in android isn`t best quality, so I suggest to test any other program available on Google Play to confirm, that locus drain battery.

And finally, this is quite hard to solve. Only possibility I see is to simulate same problem on my device. I`m not saying that this problem is not possible. because of complexity of Locus, I`m sure such problem may exists, problem is to find reason and case, when this happen ...

It`s my problem too, but the difference is if I also force shutdown in app info, it still drains battery. I wanted to reinstall Locus, but I worry about POIs, tracks etc. I`d like to sync files with another phone before reinstalling. Is that possible? Please help me.

Hi,

to keep Locus data save, just backup whole "Locus" directory on your card. To keep also settings, just in Locus > menu > more > Backup manager, perform "Backup of settings". Anyway all main data (points/tracks/maps, ...) are stored directly in Locus folder

I found this topic for more then year without touch and still open. Is anyone experiencing any unexpected battery drain thanks to Locus with last version? Because I does not heard about such problems for quite a long time. So if do not has anything against, I'll close this topic.
