Locus pro for voice driven turn-by-turn navigation on predefined route
Answered
Just a question before I buy locus pro.
This is what I want to do:
- prepare a route for cycling (on-road)
- import the gpx into locus
- manually re-create the route so locus can do navigation
- use locus to navigate with turn-by-turn voice instructions (so I don`t have to watch the screen but use earphones)
Is this possible with locus pro?
Thanks a lot,
Marc
In order to complete this question, is it possible in offline mode or do we need to be in online mode?
Thanks,
Marc

Marc,
to compute turn-by-turn instructions you need to be online. But because Locus is not primary navigation software but rather map software, I suggest for you to firstly use Free version. It offer almost same possibilities and you`ll have nice overview of what it can and can`t simply do

Menion,
But once the turn-by-turn instructions are computed, could you go offline or do we need the connection all the time to re-compute, even if we are following a predefined route.
Thanks,
Marc

nono you need only for compute. When you store computed route in Locus, you don`t need internet anymore. It`s needed just for compute itself, no more

I`m not sure if the question regarding re-compute was understood/answered correctly.
If you drove wrong (didn`t follow the previously online calculated route) and expect a corrected route to be calculated (navigation setting "auto recalculate" is ticked) you need to be online.
If it is sufficient for you to change from navigation mode to guiding after deviation from the original route you don`t need to be online.

much better answer, thanks. Yes it`s correct. Just suggestion - to be sure you stay "offline", don`t forget to disable "recalculate" in navigation settings

Today the first test succeeded!!!
This is what I did:
- created a route (for example routeyou.com)
- exported to gpx and imported to smartphone
- manually created a navigation route along the track I imported
- cashed the map around the track (within 3km) for offline
- disabled the recalculation
- started cycling
- perfect guidance along my 25km ride
Next test will be a 90km ride!
Thanks guys for the input.
This is the first app that succeeded this test!!!

Marc, would this work on (oflline) vectormaps?

Henk,
Don`t know yet. But I`m willing to try.
First I have to find out how I can load vector maps for Belgium.
It would be great if you could give me a hint on that.

Go here, first page and scroll down a bit for a Benelux map: http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f...
Next go here: http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f... for the hiking theme that pulls the most info out of this Benelux-terrain map.

The current navigation works with any map or even without map. The navigation feature is independent of the map displayed by Locus, it`s only based on the pre-calculated route and current phone position via GPS.

Indeed, it works even without a map. I changed from mapquest (which I cached before) to OSM (not cached at all). Drove my route in offline mode and it worked perfectly!! I also took a shortcut and a detour which resulted in some guidance when off-route but when back on the predefined route again the navigation returned.
About the map, I suppose it will work with vector maps. Will do the test as soon as I have the time and post the result here.

You can be sure it works with vector maps as well. I use navigation always with vector maps.

Ok, I played around myself and with the "recreating stuff" it works, also (offcourse) on offline Vectore Maps. I can navigate with voice!
It also works when you let Locus compute a route to any destination (online offcourse) and save that route. That`s nice but often not for hiking or montainbiking routes.
But it still puzzles me why it does not work on:
1. a Google Maps imported kml route
2. a Locus recorded and saved as kml route
Anyone? Because the setting of the "red dots" (recreating) is really ....

Please, please look into OsmAnd and you`ll see that offline Audio routing along an imported track (gpx) is working very well, just tested with version 0.71.
Perhaps there could be cooperation with the developers so that both can win ;)

Is there any other possibility to create or import a route that you have this navigation feature?

Don`t understand exactly what you mean. Yes, use Locus->Functions->Navigation. There you can create a route, immediately start navigation or store the route for later navigation.

just make possible to add a few special markers instead of points. Define 3 markers, like: turn left now, turn right now, go straight ahead. Make them available to put in creating the track, and when you will be getting close to any of these points/markers, Locus will play a predefined TTS voice, just before switching to the next point.
