Loose of GPS-Signal

Stephan shared this problem 4 years ago

After updating to 3.38.3 I had yesterday many short time looses of GPS.

The main time I switch off my display. If I switch on my display, I see the cursor on the actual position.

Yesterday I had very often the situation, that after switching on the display, I had a to wait for GPS and the position was a to old position.

So I missed also voice hints, like in this screenshot. The yellow mark was my actual position.

It seems to me, this behaviour turned up, if I drove very slowly.

No, I did not use powersavingsetztings.

Maybe you activated "Disable when app is hidden" in the GPS & sensors settings.

I never used this settings. On the one hand there is activated

"Disable when app is hiddenDisables GPS when the screen is turned off or the app is minimized and GPS location is not required by any other function

"but on the other hand this setting is also activated:

"GPS ON for guidance

Keeps GPS on during guidance even if the app is minimized and screen is off."

But like I said, I never uses this section of the settings.

Hi Stephan,

to be honest, this is weird. We need some more time for testing and getting more feedback about this. For the time being, try Locus settings > GPS&sensors > Google Services assisted location.

Updated to 3.38.3. Using your recommend settings I did not get any voice hint with switched off display. It seems to me, that the cursor remains at the place, where I switched off my display.

So I went back to the settings before. Same issue like before. Drop out of voice hints and a strong latency (200meters) of gps after switching on the display.

Hi Stephan,

could you please check once more if ALL means of battery optimization are switched OFF for Locus? Here are the instructions: https://dontkillmyapp.com/

best regards

Like I have written in the first post, it is off. If it would be on, navigation would not work, because GPS would not work with switched off display.

Good day Stephan, in the first post you wrote: "Yesterday I had very often the situation, that after switching on the display, I had a to wait for GPS and the position was a to old position.". This say that GPS does not work when the screen is turned off and also navigation does not work! So it definitely looks like the result of battery optimization on your device.¨

I have no idea what device you use anyway, for example, Huawei devices with Android 8.x has a bug that on most apps result in completely useless GPS usage, as you describe here. We did not find any 100% working solution. If I remember, some Xiaomi devices had the same issue as well.

So really suggest checking recommendations for your device in our manual and in web page mentioned by Michal. If none will work, I may only suggest giving a try to a different application or older version of Locus Map (which I do not expect may help). Sorry, I do not have better information for you. Thank you.

It is an S7. If battery optimization would be on, navigation would not work, because GPS would not work with switched off display. But GPS loose is only partial.

"If none will work, I may only suggest giving a try to a different application or older version of Locus Map (which I do not expect may help). Sorry, I do not have better information for you."

I think I should switch back to Osmand. You destroy too many things, which worked fine.

Or let me put in this way, if you want to start subscription model, you should work more tidy. It is a little bit annoying to write every new version bug reports. And you are not able to find the problem in nearly 50 percent.

Go out and use your app and do not test it only before you make a release.

Go out, hmm I should, you are right.

Unfortunately, my eyes, after all these years, do not like the direct sunlight ... so I rather stick with my dark tomb.

But maybe once, I'll install Osmand as well as you, and give it a try, thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Stephan,

thank you for the update. Let's test another setting. Go to Locus settings > GPS&sensors > GPS auto-off - isn't it on by any chance? If yes, please turn it off.
