Make Live Tracking feature totally invisible and/or unobtrusive

This idea is to make Live tracking unobtrusive.

To make it: Once configured, forget about it and let it work for you. It will work forever, without me bothering to start/stop it. The internet connection will be the only real OFF switch.

So this idea involves:

1. Configure Live Tracking to NOT block on Locus EXIT

2. Don`t show a Live Tracking notification bar icon

3. Add quicker access to Live Tracking ON/OFF (by adding additional, hidden functionality to its right-bar icon)

4. Add colors to Live Tracking right-bar icon to indicate if the feature is ON/OFF

How it is now:

I set Live Tracking to start automatically - cool. But now, when I try to exit Locus I`m getting:

--------------------

Application minimized

Active processes:

Live tracking

--------------------

So it blocks exiting the application. To avoid this I need to:

I. find its icon,

II. click on it,

III. click on the STOP button,

IV. and click on Confirm button.

This has to be done time I want to exit Locus. It isn`t quick.

And also a Live Tracking icon is visible - every new icon in my notification bar is just making a additional mess (sometimes I have them too many). It would be nicer to indicate Live Tracking ON/OFF by adding a point 4. feature.

I must admit that 1. is terribly annoying me everyday. I really can`t remember about turning off Live Tracking before each minimisation of Locus.

I don`t use live-tracking at all but if its implemented like other features (track recording, navigation, ...) it should be sufficient to use the home instead of the return button. Didn`t we discuss this already on some other place regarding general questions on how-to exit Locus?

I`m not getting you or you are not getting me.

The problem is that I can`t exit or minimise (and stop GPS for power saving) if Live Tracking is ON. And it is always ON in my case now. So every time I need to turn it OFF. Maybe I overlooked some option? Tell me if yes. It happens to me.

I`m really sad, that this topic was not acknowledged before releasing a version .15.

It is the TOP #1 annoying thing!

Hey... I could easily find three dozen things in Locus that are way more annoying than this. But also three hundred super cool things that make it the best gps app on any platform by far :-).

Of course you are right. And everyone knows how I love this app. The problem with this issue is:

It accidentally/unnecessarily/unintentionally lengthens process of every EXIT from Locus.

elmuSSo, I read this topic before release, I also have in head how to solve it, but estimate on this is almost a day of work, and currently I have other, from my point of view, important tasks to do, then still only 4 votes, topic ...

but this one is related to other topics with similar problem ... quick closing of Locus even if run some service ... so I`ll for sure, soon or later, do something with it

Thank you Menion. I only needed acknowledgement from you. Now I know you are aware of this issue. Sorry for my whinging.

I`m trying to debug and gather appropriate information for this issue: https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top... and I can`t do that quickly, because Live Tracking is blocking me inside the Locus. I`m always forgetting that I firstly need to turn Live Tracking off, before Locus will let me out (let me close itself). It is waste of time and nerves. Every time I forget that I didn`t turn off the Live Tracking I need to go back to Locus and spend some time on turning it off.

After one month of nobody caring about this functionality, I stopped using it.

Exiting or minimising Locus a few times per day during Live Tracking was SO F*CKING ANNOYING, that I refuse to use this feature.

To be clear:

Autostart of Live Tracking is useless, unless a user can exit/minimise Locus without every-time hassle with turning Live Tracking off.

And if you just switch off GPS (with a seperate button outside of Locus) does Locus still eat that much battery when you leave it sleeping?

Hello elmuSSo,

I don`t know if you noticed, but

1. this feature seems to works fine. I agree that your idea make sense and should help in many situations. On second side it do not block of usage of this feature (except your case)

2. I wrote on other place, that I plan change a little closing dialog, but it take some time, and I had some more important features planned and in progress.

No, but it has some serious disadvantages for me.

1. Yes I know, it is only my case, and other more-demanded features has bigger priority.

2. Same as above. But remember that closing dialog can be also very annoying in some situations. You need to remember that for some people your application is not only a holiday-trip-planning-app. Its a part of my everyday life, many times I need to turn off Locus quickly, or turn it on instantly. And I can`t afford wasted batter-life if I forgot to turn something off. Lack of unobtrusive Live Tracking made it impossible. So I wanted to use it automatically, but on the other hand I couldn`t because of the additional things to do before quitting Locus.

I`m afraid that closing dialog will be another blockade to turn Locus off. Please try to implement something like "Remember my choice" which will have also a controlling option in options.

Thank you for clarification. I just wanted to show how small thing can has really big impact in a everyday usage. I`m sorry for my previous post, I will be patient now.

no problem ... please try new test version on forum ;)

Menion.

A new way of exiting Locus is pretty good. What do you think about adding a "remember my choice" checkbox? It would be also configurable in options - how to exit an app in certain circumstances (eg. Live tracking ON)

What about other points (2,3 and 4)? Subject abandoned?
