Map details too small - resolution ppi wrong
Hello,
At my 7"-tablet PC www.devicespecifications.com/de/model/f4e531d1
Android5.0.1, Locus3.37.2, 1024*600 pixel, characters and symbols of the OpenAndromaps maps become small in size.
Function "Increase map resolution" is not a way because the number of pixels for each element does not increase and recognizability remains poor. Only characters can be enlarged separately with a different Locus setting, but symbols cannot.
The details are smaller than intended and smaller than on other devices, as the developer of the Elevate-Render-Theme confirms:
www.openandromaps.org/oam-forums/topic/schrift-und-symbole-zu-klein
With other themes the same problem existed on my tablet. It is assumed that Android reports a wrong ppi to Locus. See attached screen shot. Is there a solution?
Hi Werner,
we have recently been reworking Locus's main map rendering core. Wait a few more weeks when we introduce it in a production version - it should solve this problem.

Hello Michael,
Version 3.38.3 now works, probably the new core. But the Elevate theme icons are still exactly the same size. Only in the general theme are the letters and symbols 15...30% larger depending on the symbol. That fits. But I'm not sure if it came with the new version.
The question remains whether the problem is with Locus or Elevate.

Hi Werner,
we are sorry for inconveniences, the new map core still needs some tuning. Today we are releasing version 3.38.4. Please test it.
Michal

Hello Michal,
Thank you for your great work in general, but the size of icons is exactly the same.

Hi Werner,
could you please post a screenshot of the most problematic area? But firstly, please put the map name and scale in the topbar so that we know which data is displayed (https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_mainscr_ctrl#information_field_2). Thanks

Hello Michael,
I entered the name of the map in the top bar and saw another small error: It does NOT show the current map, but the last manually activated map. I need last week the map of New York. Then back to the map of Germany (with GPS or with the finger) - the map changes automatically, but the information about the map is not updated, also not updated in the map menue (the old map is red).
In the attached screenshot from Heidelberg the characters size is 100%. Difficult to read the street names and to recognize the icons.

Hi Werner,
this is obviously not fault of Locus - check that you have the latest version of the map theme or try another theme by OAM. Or, you can enlarge texts in the map in Locus settings > Maps > Offline maps > Text size.

Hallo Michael,
About text: I know the fix. A second text scaling exist: settings > maps > maps tools > text size (help elements). I set text only for demonstration to 100%, because normally 100% should fit.
The only one really issue are the icons. Now I installed the brand new Elevate/Elements theme 4.3.1, but no improvement. All other themes on Openandromaps are outdated. The pre installed (Locus?-)theme "General" (German: "Allgemein") fits better, icons are about 30% larger.
If you mean, it is a theme issue, I ask the theme author again.
