Map did not show

Neil Shapiro shared this problem 6 years ago
Solved

I had previously downloaded a Locus/Assam map of New Zealand West. I was just in New Zealand and the map never showed up on my tablet. I would get a prompt that said "map out of range, center?" I would zoom in, zoom out, and nothing. What do you think happened? It cost 5 units to download the map. I also noticed that Arizona was charged twice when I downloaded it to a new device. Is this normal? And the application does not always shut off the gps locator when I close the app. I have to force stop the app to shut it down. What setting do I have to be in to make sure the app shuts down when I close it? Thank you for your help.

Good day Neil,

what happened? Do not know. If app offer you to "center", it should really move the center of the screen above newly selected map. Then zoom in/out should really help.

What I may only offer is to check your downloaded map if you share map file with me (stored in Locus/maps/x directory.

Twice charged map? What email you use to access and purchase in Locus Store?

And turning GPS? App should really turn off GPS automatically when put into background and GPS is not needed. How you close the app? Try to close it by double back-button tap.

Hi Menion,

I am no longer in NZ so I can't tell if it will show up.  As for my MAP downloads, I use nshapiro8@gmail.com for my account.  Thanks for your help.

Good day Neil,

fact that you are not in NZ anymore should not be a problem. You should be able to display and use NZ maps no matter where you are. Try to select this map again and check two things: coordinates and zoom level.

To check coordinates, tap on top toolbar "Locus Map" title and choose coordinates. You should be with map center close to expected NZ coordinates. In the same panel, select "map" where should be visible zoom level. Expect values between 15 - 17.

Anyway, I'll gladly check if your map is correctly downloaded if you share with me this map file somehow (probably Stored in Locus/maps directory).

And about Arizona map: I see you have purchased two versions. One from October 2017 and one new from March 2018. We have the system where also updates are paid, on the second side, there is always an option to download older already purchased version of the map, so it is only on the user. In your case, you probably clicked on "Update" button instead of "Download older" button below.

Hope my explanation is clear.

OK...here is what I think happened to NZ.  I could only download 500 tiles per day, did that for a few days, and then left for my trip to NZ before the download was complete.  I get a couple of islands that show up.  Nothing that was useable when I was there.  I do not know how days the complete download would have taken. As for AZ...I did not realize update means buy new maps.  I do now.  Thanks for your help.

Good evening Neil,

hmm incomplete map, it may be this problem. Yes there is quite stupid limit 500 tiles/day. All limits are defined by map provider, but from time to time is good to ask, if there isn't chance to increase it :).

And about updates of LoMaps: you should see dialog where app inform that you are going to purchase a map (update) and also have to confirm map terms of use. You skipped this in hurry or were this information incorrectly wrote? I would like to prevent such "accidental purchases", because we definitely do not wants to force users to pay when they do not want.

Anyway hope all is clear. If there will be any problem with app, feel free to write me, I'll gladly help. In case of troubles, it is usually best to allow me to simulate mentioned problem. So some shared data (maps, etc.) to test are usually best.

Thank you and have a nice day,

I agree 500 tiles is stupid.  I will ask to increase next time I need to.  As far as purchasing maps, it was fairly confusing as to what to do when I got my new tablet and wanted to download my purchased Locus maps.  So I just repurchased what I needed.  The other day I did see that I could download the original version of purchased maps and did that for Washington and California which I had previously purchased.  I do not remember seeing that option for Arizona.
