Map not centered and struggling when

Jan Götze shared this problem 6 years ago
Not a Problem

When I set "rotate map" the map is not centered and outside the viewport. An it is struggling. As you can see in my video.

I use a HTC U11 life with Android 8.

Hi Jan,

check your settings > Maps > Map control > Shift map screen center - isn't it switched ON? If yes, switch it OFF.

Maybe I do something wrong. Evertime I switch my preset - I have two, Hiking an Biking - the setting switches back to on.

Hello Jan

if you use presets you must set the settings inside "preset settings" for each preset.

e.g.

click on 3-dot button on the right side of your Hike label > edit > pencil/scroll down and uncheck center map

Open your Bike preset and next your Hike preset, now map should be centered

What a great support on this side! Thanks to all of you!

But sorry, it doesn't work. I unchecked "Shift map screen center" and "Center map" in settings inside my preset. But it only works when I do that in global settings. And then only until switching the preset.

That's weird - i.e. can't be simulated. 1) go to presets, 2) select "edit" the Bike preset, 3) find "Shift map cursor" and uncheck it. 4) go back to presets and tap "Bike" preset again - all should be set as is in the preset. Isn't it?

Ah, ok. That worked (there are so many settings in Locus Map ;-)). But the map is always struggling that much. Is there a solution for that too?

What do you mean by "struggling"? That it doesn't rotate when you rotate the phone? Either your HW compass is not calibrated (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_calibrate_compass) or your device is not equipped by a HW compass and orientation is computed from GPS data - then it works only when your are moving.

Did you watch my video? All lines within map are flashing a little. I have a compass and all ist fine when rotating the phone. The map rotating is much smoother and nothing is struggling/flashing when I do not use my dashboard.

I see, the flashing... will you post your dashboard here? I'll test it. You can find it in /Locus/data/dashboard - it's a file with ".lb" suffix.

Here it is!

thanks... well, I can't simulate the "flashing" on my phone (Xiaomi Note4). It's probably a hardware issue.

OK. On friday I will get another phone (Galaxy A5 2017) and then maybe the problem is solved with it.

Sorry, I need to re-open this thread. Today I installed the last update and also in this version it happens:

Every time I change my preset the setting "Shift map cursor" is enabled. When I disable it and change my preset (and back to the previous one) it is enabled again.

Hi Jan,

where do you disable the "Shift map cursor"? You have to disable it in the preset settings, not in Locus general settings. Preset always overrides general settings so you have to change the setting there.

Hi Michal, as you can see in my screenshot, the setting is disabled in my preset. And and it is still disabled after switching between my presets. But the map cursor is not centered. And the only solution is to disable it in global settings. Nothing else (enabling/disabling in preset settings for example) helps. Only disabling in global settings. And this setting is enabled again after switching between the presets. The setting inside the preset does nothing in this case.

Hi Jan,

your screenshot shows preset "setting" part, not preset "switch" part. In the preset "setting" part you select which preferences will be switchable within the preset. In the preset "switch" part you turn preferences on of off. More about presets: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:settings:presets.

best

Michal

Oh yes, the difference between "setting" and "switch" part I saw yesterday and now I understand that you mean the switch part - right?

In this case I have a curiosity. As you can see in my video, the switch part looks different in my presets. I think there's the problem. In preset where I have the "shift map cursor" switch, map not shifting works.

How can I solve this to get the same preset switches in both presets?

Open settings of your "bike" preset > check "Shift map cursor" preference. The preference shift appears in the "bike" preset. Switch it off. This way you tell Locus that you don't want map cursor shifted when this preset is on.

It is already switched off, as you can see in my screenshot and I wrote in a comment before.

Or: can you show me a screenshot with what I have where to do?

And why do my presets have different "switch" screens?

Sorry for worries!

I know added a new preset for testing. In this preset I have the "normal" switch panel as in my hiking preset. It comes with a directly accessable switch for shift map cursor.

"And why do my presets have different "switch" screens?"

- because they have different preferences set. E.g. "bike" doesn't contain switch for "Shift map cursor".

As I have written: the screen with checkboxes just sets what switches are displayed in your preset. If you uncheck a preference, it just is not present among switches. It doesn't switch the preference off. Therefore, if you have two presets and each of them has to override another, you have to set the same preferences in each and in the first switch it on and in the other switch it off.

I know solved it by adding a new preset with setting up all new.

Now I got it! With the pencil icon in preset switch panel I edit the functionality of the preset itself. I thought the settings behind the pencil are settings for the preset.

Sorry for the worries!
