Map shading: does coloring_dem_file still work in slope angle shading?
Answered
The range of colors and grades chosen by caltopo [feature: slope angle shading] are better when scrambling over snow vs rock.
Hence, I am trying to modify slope colors in LocusMap-map-shading to match the colors/grades in Cal-topo.
I created a coloring_dem-file and added it to the directory described in another thread. But, the colors did not change.
Does the coloring-dem_file still work to modify the colors/grades in slope angle shading?
Hi,
we are sorry but it is not possible to customize slope gradient coloring. Only elevation coloring is possible.

wow.. did not know there were so many uses of coloring. Thank u.
Looks like I was using a old method which was temporarily in place when the feature was being developed. I will try the new one.

oh no. I tried using some of the palettes - All the rich palettes are not usable, and the palette that is supposed to work "Paris palette" isn't showing anything for mountains.
"Important info: every palette has defined range of colors. Like e.g. this palette: http://soliton.vm.bytemark.co.uk/pub/cpt-city/esri/hypsometry/eu/tn/europe_2.png.index.html . It has defined range from 0 to 126. Locus anyway takes these values as 0 metres - 126 metres so they are usable actually only for Paris :). It is necessary to define values of expected elevations manually(as text files) or download palettes that have correct values like e.g. this: http://soliton.vm.bytemark.co.uk/pub/cpt-city/wkp/country/tn/wiki-france.png.index.html"
What is the format of the TXT file?

Sorry, I just realized that I need custom "Slope angle" shading like Caltopo and LocusMap slope angle.
I am Not looking elevation coloring - The palettes are for elevation coloring, and not for slope angle.
I suspect the DEM file mentioned above is for slope angle customization, but its not working.
