Map shading - is there a reason why we have to choose between Hill shading vs Slopes Color

I use Map shading all the time, but have to switch between Hill shading and Slopes (colored slopes) frequently when on a Alpine scramble. Hill shading gives a different view than slopes (more of a 3D view of the terrain).

This maybe a stupid question - can LocusMap be changed to turn both options ON at same time? shade them for 3D view, and color them at same time ? why not?

If its not possible to turn BOTH ON due to some technical reason, can we add a quick switch option.

Hello bladhi, Tapio,

I never thought that there should need to display more than one "shading" type at once. Technically it is possible. On the second side, shading is quite a CPU-hungry operation so two types at once should slow down rendering a lot. Because you are first who ask after years, I may consider this as "rarely needed" feature, so I would rather stick with current "one-shading only" solution, thanks for understanding.

Shading settings in preset make sense. Oki, let's try it in the next version.

I agree this needs more love. I love using color gradients on planning, it is the best way to see hills. Choosing of color gradient file is too deeply buried in the options. I need to change it often, because the choice depends on the elevation of the area.

The color overlay over everything is not optimal. Lies like fog over the map, but Menion is aware of it.

Also,it should be part of the preset system.

Menion, shading in general, it's because people have not recognized it and its advantages for overview and route planning. You can see elevation which otherwise you can barely see. I must say on my Mate 20 X it is used without stuttering. But it's also enough for me to use it for planning mostly.

I keep slope angle shading always ON when alpine scrambing, and have not observed any higher CPU usage or battery usage on 2 newer phones. Maybe, hardware has caught up.

I agree - if turning on both is not top ask, then atleast preset or quick set should be a good compromise - seems less work, and lower risk of dealing with heavy cpu usage problems.

Thank you Menion.
