Map-Center.

Solved

Hello Menion,

Here is what we do.

1: Settings menu: Select shift-map-center(Map-controls&panels).

2: Settings menu: Navigation Choose voice-text to speech.

3: Push: Navigation button, installed on right pannel.

3: Pick destination on map.

4: Choose manner off travel --> working.

5: When road is calculated engage: map rotation and Gps-locator(the two buttons on the left under)

6: Go driving and follow the voice and indications on the screen.

7: GPS-locator loosses Shifted map-center

Is this clear now.

Problem occurs when navigating with voice and only when navigating.

When you are only driving along to see where you are(without navigation) everything is OK.

Today we made a final test;

Settings: the same as mentioned above except no voice.

Result: everything turns out OK.

Conclusion: it is the use off the voice-option that causes the problem.

I hope this helps you for resolving this bug.

As for adding a screenshot, I do not know how on a Handy.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bert,

I think I know the problem, it sometimes happens to me too. Navigation starts, but the map center does not follow the current position, instead the map "freezes" at the starting position.

I took a screenshot to help Menion understand the issue:

"Center Map to GPS" was activated when the screenshot was taken, but it didn`t work. The displayed map area stays the same, although I`m driving and so my position changes. So, after leaving the roundabout on the top of the map, the car symbol will leave the map...

I don`t use voice commands when using navigation, so I don`t think it`s related to that.

BTW, minimizing Locus and reopening it fixes the issue.

I`ll do some testing to find under which conditions this problem appears.

Today I could not create this problem. I did a 100 km navigation with voice, using the 423 mB Netherlands hike map (with a lot of detail). I was on zoom-level 15. At speeds in the car of up to 110 km/h.

No crashing, no "riding"off the map. Only when I accidentely unselected the lower left button; the "red cross" then freezes the map and the navi-position symbol moves off the screen.

Remeber that before on older Locus versions and with older but still big Dutch vector maps I had a problem with freezing and crashing.

I those days I used Eclair; now on Froyo (with one little trick: Set vm.min_free_kbytes=4096; this one is needed on most Froyo versions to keep Google maps from freezing/crashing; don`t know if it helps for Locus too).

Hello Henkvanderspek,

As I understand you did navigation with voice(certainly not duch because that is not there) without problems.

I believe you, but you didn`t mention you were using Shifted-map-center, because without everything runs as it should.

Bert Crommar.

Yes, I used English TTS voice and shift map center. Screen dumps go nicely with MyPhone Explorer from the Play Store and on your PC via the www

Hello Henkvanderspek,

Interesting screenshot, the map-center seems OK.

The two lower left buttons are OK.

But the GPS-locator does not indicate navigation(then he is a car).

In this situation everything stays OK.

So your screenshot and probably test are not conclusive.

I think Henk really uses navigation, he is an experienced Locus user.

The main indication for navigation is the navigation element in the upper left area.

The car is just a kind of cursor which can be replaced by different ones.

The setting is here:http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu...

However currently Locus itself offers only a default set and Henk added/replaced icons.

I do indeed use a custom locator. So, Bert don`t jump to conclusions too fast.

IIRC, every time I had this "map center does not follow GPS position" issue, I ran the navigation by picking the end position from a POI and the start position with "select from map", not using GPS as start position.

Every time I use GPS position as navigation start point, it seems to work properly.

Bert, how do you plan your navigation when you have that issue?

Fine guys, no matter what I do, same problem do not happen on my device, so I`ll need some help

Here is Locus Free as a test version

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locu...

Here is description for recording a logs

http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu...

I need long log, so start log recording, start locus and when error happen, stop locus and stop recording. In log will be quite a lot of debug messages, because I have no exact idea what to search. Thanks

Hello Menion,

Today we did do some navigation to get to our hiking start-point. Everything worked well this time, until the moment we went walking and I did put the handy in standby.

From that moment it lost Shifted map-center.

To get it back on map-center disengaging and engaging off GPS-location helps but immediately it looses Shifted Map-center again.

From that moment also the result off the GPS-location button became unpredictable.

For me for the moment Navigating wtih Voice And Shifted Map-center is useless for me. Besides that I have difficulty`s to stop Navigation and to eliminate the track remaining, so I shall open a new topic.

For the moment what do you want me to do, I didn`t quite understand the above.

I`l hear from you.

Menion wants you to use the special debug version of Locus (first link) and create a debug log with it (second link describes how to do it).

If you need more help, your question should be more specific.

From GPS-position to Arrival point.

I thought something like that.

Software to create log could be spying, maybe I don`t want that.

Is the standard log machine not usable?

It`s usable. I have one more idea based on your post above ... try in Locus > menu > settings > global > enable "Locus as a service" ...

as I think about it, this should solve most problems

Yep, the service could help to keep Locus in memory, really.

Bert, the log is completely viewable in the logger program, so you can check what info Menion would get. You anyway should send the log to Menion by mail and not post it in the forum.

Locus as a service was running.

When I install the Locus version that you proposed, what is going to happen with my paid version, and all the way-points I created?

nothing

hm, nothing.

What is meant is Menion provided a special version of Locus Free and you seem to have bought Locus Pro which will stay untouched.

Your waypoints and other data are shared between both Locus versions.

Menion, I`d like to use your test version to reproduce the issue - but I`m on Jelly Bean (4.2.1) and IIRC CatLog does not work any more on (non rooted) 4.2 because of changed authorization schema - is that correct?

Hello Menion,

I am trying to work with Catlog so I try to sent you a log on a Vectormap Crash(testcase). What is your e-mail address?

hello Bert,

fine. Please send it on https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top... . I need log for fix of this issue we discuss here, not crashing of vector maps.

Vector maps are discuss in another topic and mainly with Peter V, not me. Thanks

EDIT: and mambo, you`re correct. It`s Google update for 4.1+ devices that really complicate my life. So for now, I have no simple solution for this. Have to write some own CatLog for this :/

Its only testcase, I am not shure it will be all-right. In the meantime maybe you will have a log on a map-crash.

Excuse me for now I am not navigating.

Hello Menion,

Today we went navigating with special version off Locus-free while a log was taken by Catlog.

This time there was no problem at all, shifted Mapcenter worked well and no problems. Only everything ran very slow(because off Catlog I think).

The pro version I have was downloaded from Androidpit, maybe she is different.

The free version is eating my battery rather quick.

What do you propose?

Besides that, only two problems remain: 1. crashes in two situations, VectorMaps and Planning long Navigating trips(3500km or more).

2. difficulties to remove track after navigation.

I shall open new topic about this.

Log from Catlog is included in the mail we did send..

Thanks at forehand,

Bert Crommar.

GooglePlay LocusPro and AndroidPit LocusProare are the same apps.

Your testversion is different.

>crash VectorMaps and Planning long Navigating trips(3500km or more).

and

>difficulties to remove track after navigation.

both maybe off-topic here.

this topic => "Map-Center"

and as you wrote:
