Maps don't have depth for Marine Navigation

It does not appear your LocusFree app is suitable for Marine Navigation, as it does not have water depths on the maps. Is that correct?

Hello James,

honestly Locus is not created for Marine navigation. But we know that some users use it for sailing because the bearing or heading feature. When it comes to maps - Locus can display maps from http://map.openseamap.org/ but these maps are without depths. Locus also offer great Norway Statkart sailing map but these maps cover only the coastline of the Norway. So Locus doesn't offer some global map marine with depths.

Openseamap does incorporate crowd-sourced depth data, which tends to be quite accurate. Any chance of putting those in as an overlay?

Hi,

could you post more info about OpenSeaMap depth, please? I've enabled "Depth Contours" layer on their web page but it doesn't seem to work. At least I can't see any contour lines.

Thank you

Chances are you're looking at a region that doesn't have that data yet. Go to the OpenSeaMap chart, make sure 'depth contours' is on, and find Tenerife, for example.

EDIT: look here (zoom in) for some datapoints. This'll go to depth contours if there's enough data.

Hi,

thank you...I can see it. I asked the administrator of OpenSeaMaps if would be possible to add this layer into Locus.
