Maps in store pretty out of date

Hello, two questions about the maps in the store, especially the vector map for Italy.

Its size is bigger than the "openandromaps" counterpart. Why is that? Do they contain more informations, or a better digital elevation model is used when available (in the Alps) for the contour lines?

I am really interested in getting as much as information as I can, offline, so the more the better. Curious to know the difference then.

Second, why is the map so out of date? It is from November 2014.

Also, one comment aside. I think a license should be lifetime for a region, I mean that I buy Italy and I get all of the future versions. It would really encourage me (and several people I guess) to buy it and use that for convenience, rather than the freely available ones.

Many thanks

Hello,

I’ve changed your idea into question type (it’s probably better).

However to your questions:

Size of file:

The difference in size is very likely caused by database of POIs. Locus maps contains offline database of POI. So if you download vector map you can search for POIs around you or tap on POI on the map. More about it: http://www.locusmap.eu/news-version-3-5-0/

The http://viewfinderpanoramas.org is the source for elevation model of Locus Maps. I'm not sure which data use OpenOndroMaps but very likely uses the same "model".

Out of date

I have to say that we’re in the middle of generation new vector maps. The release of updated maps is planned on the second half of February. Our plan is to update Locus Maps about every 3 months. Is it sufficient interval?

Licensing

Honestly that’s never ending question for us and it was also discussed several times here or on

Locus forum. Ur solution is not ideal (I know it) and I can understand you. On the other hand it allows to manage traffic for downloaded vector maps which is quite expensive for us. We also do not restrict

another vector maps - so users can import vector maps from another sources.
