More versatile Track Line Style(s)

jtkorken shared this idea 12 years ago
Completed

Hello again,

with the current options of "characterising" or better "differentiate" Tracks on a map from each other or on an already colourful "crouded" map (like "Wanderreit" with many e.g. Hiking Trails in it) one is pretty limited.

Proposal:

1. More line styles like dashed, dash-dot, "phantom" (remember AutoCAD?), etc.

2. "Borderlines" for tacks in separate colour

3. and last but not least the option of relating an Icon/Bitmap to a Track...

4. ...even worse :-P , repeating this periodically on the track length in order to have an even better chance of recognizing it.

Regards

Definitely you are right with this. But I would also ask for linking the track style with the track type (bike/foot/...). It would be great to define the styles for every type of the tracks. Soe they will be automatically coloured/styled when showing on the map.

Ok, fine, but only when allocating/changing a track type. Line types should mainly be linked to INDIVIDUAL tracks.

Different line color for categories would be enough for me already:

e.g.

bike -> blue

walking/hiking - green

car -> magenta

but +1 for this idea

The colours should be configurable to fit everyone`s taste

I would love it if Locus could "slightly modify" the color of each track (in the same category if that is implemented) automatically.

Why?

When I import a few tracks from a trip portal to check out a new area, they normally are grouped close together, cross over each other, start/end at the same point, etcpp. Locus turns this into a mess of indistinguishable blue (or whatever the color is) lines. A global on/off option:

x slightly modify track colors

would be incredibly handy when dealing with multiple tracks. When enabled, Locus would check if a visible track has the same color as other visible tracks on screen. If true, modify the color hue by a tiny and random amount.

With this feature, even if we import twenty hiking trails around Zermatt from a single gpx, we would have a pretty and readable display right away instead of going through each track and modify its color manually.

Any plans here still, now with the Track Catagory it would make double the sense...

No chance ?:)?

never say never ;)

Especially with more style options, I would like to have a faster way to define track styles and default track styles. See https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top...

See also https://getsatisfaction.com/locus/top... which covers dynamic styles

I would like the behavior like joeloc described it. With plenty tracks on the screen it get messed up quite fast.

Best would be a combination of automated color variations and customized color code / line dashes by category

Hi guys, mainly jtkorken as author,

this is what I implemented for now

1. ability to choose from various styles "dashed", "dotted", others ...

2. ability to define style for whole category and then for separate tracks choose if will use own style, or style defined by category

I understand rest of ideas, but after discussion with Peter and Hanka, we decided not to add more settings to tracks styles, sorry.

Anyway, thanks to this progress, I`m marking this idea as implemented

and last thing, joeloc promote on many places idea of some automatic modification of colors. I suggest to create separate topic on this, because it`s not exactly what jtkorken wanted and also because I personally do not agree with this. You`ll also see if current changes aren`t enough to make tracks looks different

Looking forward to new version. But it seems to be only half the way...

from this idea, it`s only 1/4 of the way :). 1/4, I considered to be doable and usable

- borderlines will slow down rendering really a lot. a LOT

- and some bitmap icons along tracks, ah I understand you want a methods to make tracks appear different, but I`m sure, current solution offer enough for 99% of situations

Hi. How to understand that? There will be a possibility to define color/shape of the track, but

1. will this color/shape stay after saving the track?

2. will this color/shape be exported to kml/kml as well? or just another red line for all the categories?

Thank you very much for this so far! Who knows, one of these days the other proposals might be realized as well :-)

>1. More line styles like dashed, dash-dot,

done

>2. "Borderlines" for tacks in separate colour

done

So for me, my wishes (i voted too) are 100% done

thank you! - good job

hmm perfect. For everyone who wants to test it and say it`s opinion, check this http://forum.locusmap.eu/viewtopic.ph...

I didn`t want to create a new thread for that so I will post it here, because it looks the most relevant to the issue.

When user is editing a appearance of track/tracks folder, he can set a different modes ( Simple color/ Accuracy and so on..). When he choose any of the colored anything else than Simple color, he still can choose a style and base color, which doesn`t work.

SCENARIO:

I`m choosing:

Mode: Speed

Style: Dotted

Base color: black

Draw outline: Red

OUTCOME:

Style: Dotted = Track is dotted - that`s fine

Mode : Speed = looks perfect ( I love it:))

Base color = it doesn`t seem to be relevant. Any color placed here is not changing anything in track appearance. If so, I think this option should be grayed out and disabled.

Draw outline = No outline is drawn. That is sad, because it would be awesome to have an outline here. Mode: Speed is great for both Car and Train tracks. But if both of them are set to this mode, they are indistinguishable from each other. So outline would be great here to have Mode: Speed turned on, and to differentiate between track categories by its outline.

Anyway, track colouring is fantastic, thanks for that.

hi,

it`s not precise. Color you define as base color is used, but not directly for a coloring. Imagine for example coloring by Heart rate values. In this case, should be points, where Heart rate values is not available, so on these points will be used defined "base color"

Anyway you`re right that there is a place for improvements

1. locus should use "alpha" channel from defined base color also on this "coloring by" system

2. using a outline also for these colored tracks. There is just a problem that outline is draw by drawing wider line and then thin line. This case that drawing a outlined line is much slower and it also do not use correctly alpha channel.

ok. I didnt check heart rate. but, would you agree that base color should be disabled for modes that don`t use it?

2. shit, I see the problem
