navigate the south downs way
Answered
Hi There,
I have a Samsung S7 and I want to use it to navigate the south downs way in southern England when I plan to cycle it in May. This route is 106 miles long and mainly off road. I can get a gpx file of the route but I have tried loading it into strava and map my ride but they do not support navigation, So I have two questions:
1 Can I use this app to navigate this route using either a gpx file or by using one off your store if you have it?
2. If not can I use the app to make my own route and then navigate that? By navigate I mean be able to follow the guidance from end to end.
Hi Peter,
1. yes, this app can navigate your route from imported GPX. See http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tracks:import and http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:functions:navigation:along-route
2. yes, you can plan your own route directly in this app with or without help of a routing engine. See http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tracks:planning. Then you can be navigated along it.

I downloaded a GPX track of South Downs Way from here: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/south-downs-way/plan
I imported it into Locus Map and displayed it on the OpenStreetMap Outdoors map. Here is how the entire track appears (the phone is being held horizontally).
Here is a magnified view of a portion of the track.
Here is the eastern end of the track. I selected it and instructed Locus Map to operate in Navigation mode ("satnav"). The track becomes highlighted and instructions appear to guide you to the destination (including optional verbal instructions).
Locus Map will meet and exceed your requirements.
