No way of deselecting multiple/all points and tracks

For some people this might be considered as a new idea, but for me this is a serious issues, and it was implemented in the old times, not it disappeared ( so it is not new idea ).

TRACKS PROBLEM:

In Locus we have very nice feature of hiding (temporarily hiding) all tracks and all points on a screen ( VERY useful feature). But consider that:

I have TONS of recorded tracks, sometimes when I analyse some of them ( lets say 10) and all of them are in different categories, it is a real pain to disable/hide them in one go. Instead I need to:

1. Click on each category

2. Click on each Deselect All

Believe me, it takes time on older phone with hundreds of recorded tracks.

A few months ago (maybe year) when there was no such a hard division to different track categories, it was really easy to turn off all tracks, just by choosing "Deselect all". Now it is impossible.

TRACKS SUGGESTIONS:

I believe a nice thing to add would be a "virtual category" called "All tracks", placed on top of all other categories (Aviation, Boating ...). It would be perfect for managing all tracks within all categories.

Additionally I would suggest adding a new position to "Tools" button (currently placed next to each category) - "Deselect all". By that, it would be quick and elegant to deselect all tracks inside each category, without even entering it! With combination of a previous suggestion - ideal.

It would be worth of considering creating a sister-screen of "Item visibility". Same functionality, but for tracks.

POINTS PROBLEM:

Similar to Tracks Problem - but here, the "Deselect all" (in particular category) is already implemented in already-mentioned "Item visibility". Only thing to add is "All points" virtual category - with it it would be really quick to deselect permanently all points, instead of clicking on each category`s checkbox.

I hope someone will extensively cover this post with a proper discussion, because these features are really crucial for efficient work with thousands of points and tracks. Thanks.

you wrote a very very nice sum of all I`m aware and about all this I`m thinking last weeks, but am unable to create some from all point of view satisfied solution ...

1. I was also thinking about improving "Items visibility" tool and adding there two tabs - points/tracks. Tracks with same functionality as points. Also buttons "hide all" should be usable. Only problem for me is SPACE. Mainly on a small devices this is huge problem

2. I have also in mind merging data screen and item visibility screen as both are quite similar. Unfortunately both has it`s specific features and again - space.

3. button "Deselect all" is something that gynta suggested and repeated to me a long time ago. I just wanted to create step 2, that should cover also this

4. virtual category "all" is nice idea, but I`m here really worried about memory and speed. Usually android and lists are handled in way, that data are loading as you scroll, so only a visible part is in memory (you probably know this). I have done it in locus in old way, that I firstly load all data, then do some operations above them and display them. So "all" isn`t always best

so from my point of view ... I`ll try to think more about point 2. If this will not be possible, I may simply do point 3 and also 1. What you and others means? (if anyone had time to read all this ...:) )

1. I was also thinking about that - nice idea. I would like to see tabs here anyway. I don`t know, maybe use some gestures, or autohiding tabs?

2. Yeah, that would be nice. The current state isn`t so bad though. Visibility stuff is good for quick access, without going to heavier part. It was strange at the beginning, but now is nice. Just this lack of "Deselect all" is very annoying. Clicking on these checkboxes is a hell.

4. Remember that writing a dissertation about Android doesn`t change me into Android expert:) I have only a few positions in lists in my app, which is nothing comapred to thousands that can be managed by Locus. But I understand the problem and, to be honest, virtual category wouldn`t be even needed if "Deselect all" would be added somewhere.

hmm quite practical in the end ...

I`m worried only one thing ... "Hide all" and "Deselect all" sounds very similar to basic users (I`m sure that also for advanced), so I think there should be better way how it indicate what which button exactly do. Any ideas?

"Temporarily hide all" will be valid, but its too long:/

"Supress"?

Maybe "cloak"!

Hi.

I have feedback on that one. Its pretty cool. The way you put "Deselect all" and additional functionality of Data button (Hide all). Pretty nice and smooth approach.

But, I can`t see Select all/Deselect all functionality for each Points/Track folder. What if I want to turn on/off just one Folder? Currently I need to get into each category and turn it of manually. Some of my categories have 2000points (eg. Polish caves), when I`m entering it, I need to wait good 7 seconds. This is pretty big overhead when I need to do that with more folders.

Please, may you consider adding Select all/Deselect all for each folder. That would make the Data screen amazing.

hi, did you tried to tap on visible icon right next to folder name? ;)

Hoho. Interesting:)

I didnt know about that because I have a miss to http://www.locusmap.eu/news-in-versio.... I`m sorry I sometimes don`t read all materials before I post a comment. But I think you should add this kind of quick news into the app itself. So each user will see such a nice micro-tutorial after Locus update.

About the feature itself: for me, this is nice and very convenient. So Im really happy and grateful for implementing that! thanks!

But from a professional point of view, you need to be aware that in my opinion this is against GUI design rules. New, unaware user will not know about this function, because nothing is saying that those icons have sucha anice functionality. They dont appear to be even clickable.

But again, Im really happy with that functionality. Thanks.

You don`t have seen this screen in your Locus??

and also, are you sure it`s about guidelines?

guess where I had inspiration for this idea ... http://lifehacker.com/select-multiple... ;)

gynta: no, I haven`t

Menion: Everything is changing, I never experienced such a behaviour anywhere. You know, in this industry patterns are changing into anti-patterns after time. Not everyone is using gmail. I`m not. Like I say, I like this behaviour, but the risk is yours. If you believe that people will instinctively know that they should click on the button - thats fine. Or if everyone will see the screen mentioned by gynta ( I didn`t ( btw. why?)) that`s cool.

I can make some user tests. Many of my friends are using Locus now, so I will show them Points and/or Tracks screen and will tell them to turn on/off all tracks.

But personally I believe that more appropriate solution for selecting/deselecting all would be to have a visible option after clicking on "tools" icon.

Anyway, I`m happy you told me about that, because without any instructions I would never guess that I need to click on those icons:P

understand :)

I`m sure that most people will not know about it, but I don`t see it as a big problem (btw. fact that you do not saw hint is a bug). Because previously, to quickly hide/show a whole folder, you need to have in right panel special "Item visibility" and this was also quite complicated task for a many people

Like I said. Its fine for me. Thank you.

So "Deselecting of all Tracks" and "Deselecting of all POIs" and "Hide all" options are working nice. But there is still no "Deselect all Tracks and POIs" available from the Data icon context menu.

Today we have there:

[Hide all]

[Remove temp map items]

[Information]

[Change]

Why not add [Deselect All stuff] there? I bet it wouldnt be very complicated. Should I create a separate IDEA for that?
