Not all symbols are explained
Answered
Hello,
when I check the map legend of the LoMaps I found that not all symbols are explaine. For example power lines, which could act as a good landmark to navigate along.
If you could recognize them on the map. Is there an additional map legend to the LoMaps one we can find in the manual?
Cheers

Dear Andreas,
I'm sorry map legend for LoMaps is quite obsolete. Please see attached image with highlighted power lines.
Thank you

Thanks, I figured that out already by using topographic paper maps. I run weekend navigation workshops, teaching practical navigation with maps and compass ( if digital system fail or get unavailable.) and with tablets using Locus Map Pro. The participants run through a scenario, where they must figure out the best way from A to B. Power lines are a great thing to navigate along, as they are good landmarks.
Are there any plans to update it?
In fact I started to use openandromap themes with LoMaps. They are far more granular to configure then the LoMaps themes.
But I still haven't figured out, where some symbols come from. Is it OSM, is it Mapsforge...? I use these map legends:
Openandromaps: http://www.openandromaps.org/wp-content/users/tobias/Elevate_Kartenlegende.pdf
And Openandromaps uses these symbols in addition: http://www.sjjb.co.uk/mapicons/contactsheet#transport

Hi Andreas,
it would be interesting to see result from your test scenario :) The update for legend is definitely planned but there is always something with higher priority.
The appearance of the map is fully influenced by theme. So if you see some unknown symbol then it's defined in themes. Please send the screenshot and GPS coordinates I'll find out more about it.
Best regards
Petr

Immediately, Sir.

That is a power station where power lines are leaving.
One is the OSM OpenTopo Map, using the documented power line symbols of OSM. The other is LoMap Germany North with the Openandromap Elements SVG theme.

Dear Andreas,
honestly I'm not sure if I can understand your question. Both maps use different style how to render the power lines. Vector maps (LoMaps) give an opportunity to use completely different style for any element. OSM data only says: "Hey there is a power line" and it's completely up to theme how power line will be displayed. The result is that the same elements can look diferent.

My question is, where to get/search for a complete list of the used symbols. That's why I wanted to know what is responible for the symbols as I could try to search for it (ex. LoMap symbols or Mapforge symbols).
Actually I take a paper card, compare what I see and get the explanation from the paper card.
