Why it's still so limited when many other apps just ask for granting the write access permission and then work with SD card without problems? (I would like to set the ".Locus" folder in the SD card, but outside of the Android\data directory.)

Hi R3gi,
"other apps just ask for granting the write access permission" right into the Android/data directory. Locus can do that as well but there are drawbacks (http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat#locus_and_all_its_data_on_sd_card). If you don't want to loose data when re/un-installing Locus, do it this way: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat#locus_in_internal_and_some_data_in_external_storage_-_recommended.
The limitation is NOT our idea, believe me. We would be very happy if Android behaved the same way as before the Kitkat version when unlimited SD read/write permission was granted.

Thanks for detailed reply. For sure I've read those manuals before, but I still don't get it, why Locus don't use the same approach such as file managers (e.g. FX file manager), which can write to SD card without any problem – without manual user file operations, installing third party apps, modifying system settings globally, …
Currently when browsing for a folder in Locus (e.g. if I want to set the folder for "mapItems/") the file structure browser throws an error when I try to select/create directory on SD card, instead of asking me for write permission such as file managers, internet browsers, galleries, media players, … do.
So if I get it right, there's no clear solution to have all Locus data in external storage only, with certain parts (mapitems, export, etc.) defined in folders located in the SD root subdirectory (not in Android/data) and that all without having to modify system behavior for all other apps, moving updated files manually in the future or having trouble when I want third party apps to be able to write to certain Locus folders?

"why Locus don't use the same approach such as file managers"
- Locus writes data (maps, points/tracks) into databases randomly which is the point. File managers just store files. More info and history of this is thoroughly described here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat
"if I get it right, there's no clear solution to have all Locus data in external storage only"
- you can place all Locus directory on your external drive only to /Android/data/menion.android.locus/files/ folder. With some exceptions that we managed to hack - MapsVector, SRTM and Backup folders that can be placed in extSD card root directory.
As you say you read all references, you probably know drawbacks of placing Locus directory in the Android/data folder.
