Off line map of a long track

I have a track of 2200 Km (Amsterdam-Rome by bycicle). I want to download the maps for off line use in my smartphone. As much zoom as possible of the track and no use for map info outside the track of more than 5 Km

Anyone ideas if this is possible?

exactly this method will works. I may only suggest

1. separate track to more parts, download will be little bit faster as Locus will have to test less tiles if they need to be download or not.

2. please, do not download too much data at all. If you really need some close zoom levels, think about using a vector maps!

3. feel free to ask if you`ll have any specific questions ;)

Dear Menion, Thx for your answer.

Tip nr 2: You advise Vector maps. I bought the Vector maps from the countries I will pass.

Question: what is better with using these maps according to other formats?

Hi Alex,

you want to know why vector maps are better at all?

If so, I`ll try to sumarize it a little

they are not better in all cases. Vector maps has advantages as well as disadvantages.

disadvantages (to have worst part fast behind us):

1. they need quite a lot of CPU to create on your devices, to result is they`re slower then raster maps (classic images) and they also consume little but more battery (because your process need to do more work)

2. Vector maps should contain less information then some specialized maps. For example Outdoor active maps, will always looks better and have more information for hiking then vector maps.

and advantages:

1. they`re really small. For example whole Germany took around 1400 MB. In this are all possible tracks, points, contour lines, even a house numbers etc. Because data are based on OpenStreetMap project, in some areas cover isn`t 100%. Raster maps in same detail will be +- 25x bigger (just a tip)

2. you can change theme of these maps directly in Locus (and if you`re little skilled, you can create your own theme). So you set these maps to display hiking routes, cycle routes, or highlight streets (for car)

3. downloading is really fast and simple, so you don`t have to wait hours and hours till you download all tiles. All should be done directly in Locus or you may download these maps from many of alternative sources manages by many (not just Locus) users

did I miss any advantage/disadvantage? :)
