Offline LoMaps - How to rename?

Joe Putzer shared this question 8 years ago
Answered

I'm loving Locus so far. I'll use the offline LoMaps in the Americas. I've downloaded several US state LoMaps and I'll continue to download states as I need them. The problem is each state is named "United States". See the image I've attached. How do I rename the files so that I can name them the state (Montana or Oregon for example). Right now I have to open the map to know which one it is. Once I have many LoMap states it will be difficult to tell them apart if they are all named "United States"

Hello Joe

there was a little problem on V 3.17.1 with map naming

now V 3.17.2 is available and for maps in Europe identically naming of maps is solved.

Please update and report

Thanks Wolfgang,

I should have checked my latest version first. That worked. The state names are all there now.

Cheers,

Joe

Is there a way to rename the download map? I want to give a better name and I don't want to re-download map data (1.8GB).

Thanks!

Good day Sai,

rename of maps (if we talk about LoMaps) is not possible and is not mainly recommended.

Hi,I have the same problem. I left the name proposed when I downloaded the map and I am looking for a way to rename it more precisely.

Obviously, this option does not exist in Locus.

Question: If I use a file manager (Solid Explorer) to change the name, what happens?

3 mn after my question :

I just tried it, it works

Hello,

main disadvantage I see here is that Locus won't anymore see this renamed map as "downloaded", so Locus Store will offer new download and check for updates will fail as well. If there is any name of country incorrect, simply write us and we will fix it.

Hello Menion,

Your answer refers to maps uploaded to Locus Store.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm talking about free download maps.

Changing the name via the file manager does not affect the operation of the app.

Since Locus Maps does not offer a renaming option, I think it may be useful for users of the app to be aware that this possibility exists.
