Good day Chris, I think, why not.

If you will see directory on flash drive in your system, you should probably add maps on this flash into Locus with this method: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external . I think it should work correctly.

Thanks Menion,

I wish to download a free map from the Store, (all of Germany), but my phone has insufficient internal memory, (hence the original question). I will purchase an OTG flash drive in the hope that it will solve this problem.

Hello Chris,

what device are you using? There is no option for SD card and internal memory is really so low? Option is to download maps to memory and not used maps backup into your PC or flash disk.

I'm writing it mainly because:

1) I'm not 100% sure it will work

2) faster access to map file and faster CPU = faster vector maps. I'm more then sure that external disk/flash drive connected over micro usb cabel, will be a lot lot slower then internal memory, so I'm also worried that vector maps will be also a lot slower.

Just my small warning to prevent some wasting of money and nerves when it won't be 100% necessary. Good luck anyway!

Hi Menion,

I am using an 8Gb MotoG and I only have <1Gb of free space after extensive housekeeping, (no SD card slot).

Can you elaborate on downloading to memory and then backing up to PC or Flash disk?

I take your point about memory access speed and I may have to upgrade my phone to a 16Gb model in order to ensure the useability is maintained. The downside is the cost of a new 3rd Gen MotoG, (nice phone though!).

Cheers

Understand, shame on manufacturers who create device with less or equal 8 GB memory without SD card!

Anyway, Locus download vector maps to Locus/mapsVector directory. You may simply copy your device to PC and copy maps from this directory to your computer and later when you will need them, you may just copy them back to this directory.
