It would be nice to have the possibility to upload your tracks directly to Openstreetmap

hey, finally someone who wants something around better support of OSM maps. Nice. This idea have my support and hope there will be more votes.

We already discuss about it on locus forum here http://forum.asamm.cz/viewtopic.php?f... , but I never started work on it. More voices here = sooner realized

Good idea! Me being pretty novice with active contribution to the OSM Project didn`t dare to ask this question :-) But now...once it has been started, why not adding POI to it.!

Relates a bit to my request of getting different layers of info back from OSM into Locus, as I really do like POI capturing with Locus.

Hi guys,

I have unsolvable troubles with this feature. All is implemented, all should work, but it didn`t.

Authentication is for now by name/password in application (not by oAuth). Settings incorrect name or password result in "Couldn`t authenticate you", so login is correct!

Unfortunately, OSM server returns only "400 Bad Request" and that`s completely all!! No error message, no description of problem. I discovered that OsmAnd have also this feature, but it use simulating of web form, so quite weird method and not much usable for me now. OSMTracker use same method but not by Android HTTP mechanism, but by some external apache library, which have almost 500kb, damn.

Don`t you know any other application that upload tracks and is opensourced so I should check it`s method??

Also, are "description" and "tags" required when uploading tracks or not? Thanks

I don`t know anything about programming, so I may be little help.

At the Openstreet Wiki there is a topic about upload :http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Up...

At the end of the article a few programms with dirct upload are listed.

If you upload tracks via the web page you have to fill in at least the discription and how your gpx track shall be contirbuted (privat/anonym/...)

I hope i could help a bit

Maybe its best to ask the ppl in the OSM dev mailing list:

I know about this OSM uploading app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...

On http pages tags and description are just voluntary.

thanks all for help!!

first beta: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locu...

what it can do

1. export track to OSM server! (OAuth used for login)

2. support for display and report for OpenStreetBugs - check "menu > functions > OpenStreetBugs"

some feedback is not welcome, it`s needed :). Thanks and good night (at least in central Europe)

Tested with Google login on Xperia Active ICS:

- Authentization and upload OK

- first two uploads doesn`t appear in OSM tracks

- others OK, except:

- uploaded file doesn`t keep a filename - it is renamed to osm.gpx

- settings (without describing labels) are prefilled with "null" = not zero string but 4 letters: "null"

- upload of multiple files doesn`t work

Multiple files to upload are quite handy because typical OSM tracking day results in multiple tracks created.

The solution might be auto-filename based on the track name and shared description and tags.

I can copie myneurs results

Tested on Galaxy Ace Gingerbread

Thank you so far

If your are finished and the basic version is out of beta, I have another idea ;)

first too uploads doesn`t appear? And did you received some message from test osm server with upload results? I checked only one track for upload but it worked correctly.

Also if someone from you use OSM bugs, please check them also. I`m not using this feature so I don`t want to fill map with some incorrect testing "bugs". Thanks :)

Only the first Upload didn`t appear for me without any reason.

When trying again (logout, export, login) I think it is "just" a usability issue:

When the locus is reopened after OSM login, the export dialog Export type was changed from OSM back to GPX. Probably I didn`t notice this, and that`s why the export was sucessfull but nothing was seen in OSM:)

Anyway, I am getting "unsuccessfull" response after the re-login.

- Login responses "successfull"

- "Login valid" is shown in export dialog

- When trying to export , the response is "unsuccessfull"

BUT:

- when I return to browser window which was opened because of login

- there is still a request page with checkbox to declare rights and "Save changes" button

- submit it again

- I got a "You have disallowed this request" (yes, disallowed)

- return to Locus

- Export again

- now it works

There seams to be something different with the login.

The first time there was not such problem..

oki, here is another version. Login, upload etc problems should be fixed now https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locu...

For some reason the first upload responded "unsuccessfull".

While from that time, any other, (including behaviour after logout and new launch), it works fine.

..still there is need to request the export twice - before and after login..

Thanks

hmm well, you`re doing login only once, so I`ll try to do something with it anyway it`s just minor problem I think.

May I ask for another improvment in track uploading?

It`s more an automation.

Sometimes when GPS has a bad connection (high buildings/...) you have big jumps which are bad for mapping.

Therefore an automatic split of the track while uploading would be nice. Maybe like: the last point is more than 100m away---> split

The upload dialogue could reply something like this: "Track is going to be uploaded in 3 parts"

All thumbs up for implementation of this feature.

Now you can try to tell OSM to claim Locus as recommended app for tracking and boost a popularity of both: Locus and OSM.

christian: is this really useful? You simple see on map, that this point on track is really nonsense ...

Anyway result will be that track will be separated into more GPX files and uploaded as a zip file right?

myneur: I`ll mainly try to find some contact on person that may remove stupid ban on main openstreetmap server (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bl.... Locus is for around year, not violating their terms of use in any way I know, but result is same ... maybe this will help because fresh maps are quite needed for tracks upload and OSM bugs usage I think

A few weeks ago I made a trip through the mountains...the single tracks were about 9 hours...a few times the GPS signal got lost for a while.

I don`t think uploading in zip would work... I tested it and its puts the tracks together again while uploading.

It`s ok if it is too complicated or time consuming. Im already happy with the possibility to upload tracks.

Hi.

I am still encountering the same error: "Unsuccessful" response after upload in Pro version as reported above in test version.

- login is successful

- but when I try to upload track, the response is "Unsuccessful" and no track is uploaded.

- sometimes it starts to work and from that time it works

- sometimes it stops to work, just telling "unsucessful"

thanks for report guys, I`ll check it tomorrow much more carefully. Seems there is still something bad in uploading (weird anyway). Btw, you don`t have to already login when you want to upload. It`s just one time operation.

What was the conclusion of this discussion; I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.guillaumin.android.osmtracker and it seems to work fine, but would be nice to have all in one.

Hello Andres,

I'm not sure what means your post, because as I know, export to OSM works fine from Locus from last Locus versions.

Or is there still any problem I'm not aware off?

Thanks!

My bad, I just didn't see its an option. Now(!) I found it; in Export. I had GPX as the type, but its not that clear is a "click to select option". I suggest you add a line+arrow, as is done for the GPX version at the bottom, that makes it clearer its an option.

Good point. It took me a while till I found what you mean, but it make sense. Improved, thanks.
