POIs from other than LoMaps

Gathering feedback

This is lovely feature, but displaying POIs works just over LoMaps. Would it be possible to introduce that feature also for other maps?

Hello Hrabosh,

this feature is not bound directly to LoMaps, it is more bound to specific vector map based on same file name.

How you can imagine this should work? Some UI for POI database where you define "display POI from this DB also for this, this and this maps"?

I mean Menu > POIs (beta) - there are POIs just from LoMaps, isn't it? There is a list of POIs avalable just for areas covered with LoMaps, evethough I'm currently using another map.

I'm not mastering extracting POIs from vector maps. My general idea is that there is point with location, category and you render a such point somehow. I think it should be possible to extract such points from the map that I'm currently using (=POIs from current map). Searching some POIs just from the rendered map is sometimes difficult. It would be useful in augment as well.

Alternatively you can add "download POIs" button for selected map/area and download them from general database (OSM) and display them independently from map layer.

That would work for sure but may introduce complexity.

What's about putting geo awareness into the POI DBs? I.e. bounding bix or polygon, or whatever you do to know the scope of a map can easily be applied to the POI DB, too.

When the user asks for the POIs, you simply pick the DB that is valid for the area on the screen, exactly the way how you determine which map to show. The mechanics is there already, right ?

And this works for any kind of underlying map then. Online, raster, any kind of vector map.
