Power saving mode
Answered
Hello,
I'm using Locus map to record my MTB cycling tours and with a dashboard. I've tried to use the screen switch off / switch on function with the light sensor. It is not convenient as natural change of luminosity (shadow and light in the forest through the tree, changing orientation with sun...) always switch the screen. Is it possible to implement a power saving mode with a black screen and only the dashboard on the screen. It could turn on the map for a defined time by taping on the screen.
By the way I really love your application, many thanks for your developments, faithfully,
SD
Good day Sebastien,
if I understand correctly, you wants to permanently display black screen with dashboard above and just instead of turn off/on the display, just turn off/on background map?
It is doable, but it does not make too much sense to me. Main reason why there are options for turning screen off, is to save battery. With screen turned on, even with black background, battery consumption will be a lot lot higher then with screen completely turned off, and this even with Amoled displays, I'm more then sure.
Not sure how exactly you use Locus Map and what exactly does not work as expected. I suggest to try turn on/off screen by proximity sensor, that was highly improved in latest version and with first option (single wave) it should be quite usable even on bicycle during ride. To be true, I've not yet tested it :).
Sorry for negative answer about your idea, anyway I do not consider it as "compatible" with core idea around screen on/off function > battery saving. Thanks for understanding.

Hello, I'm using the application as bicycle computer + to record all my trips, but I don't care about the map (or very rarely). Thats not the case for hiking for example.
I've tried to use the proximity sensor, but with a cover on my cell phone + change of ambiant luminosity it does not work very well. Maybe it could be better if I can adjust the time between light and shadow to validate the wave.
I've already read that black screen can save battery on amoled screen.

Hello,
you may try to enable black background map from menu > maps > top toolbar > blank maps, if this help. Or you may create a dashboard with completely black background ( there is sample called "My Tracks").
About proximity sensor ... maybe try instead of quick wave, do something like "cover sensor for half of second and then put palm away", this should help.
