Problem with map adding

Prin Cha shared this problem 7 years ago
Solved

Hi,

I downloaded 5 maps from OpenAndroMaps (http://www.openandromaps.org/downloads/europa) on my rooted Samsung S5 to use them offline in Locus and c:geo. Unfortunately, 3 of the 5 maps cannot be opened by both apps. Here is a screenshot of the Locus problem report.

Can anybody help?

Thanks!

Good day Prin,

"Invalid magic byte" usually means incorrectly downloaded map. Because it do not work in both app, I really suggest to download it once more.

Thanks, but I already downloaded the maps twice and that did not help :(

Did you download on a PC and tried to view them there ? Vectorial Map (trial is free) or Cruiser would do that job on a PC.

If they work there, transfer them to your S5.

BTW: which maps are the failing ones ?

Hello Prin

for test i´ve downloaded "alps west" with PC, unpackt it and copied map file to my storage/exSD/..../mapsVector/europe

and it work fine ;-)

I now removed/copied again all the maps, and uninstalled/re-installed both maps, with the results that still one of the offline maps do not work (another one than before, the last of the list with the same report "invalid magic byte"). The data can be opened on my PC by Cruiser, that was no problem.

Any other ideas?

Have to be some problem in your "copy" mechanism. What about inserting your SD card to computer and copy data on PC and not in mobile? Did you tried this?

perhaps an idea ....

- rename your folder "Karten" to "mapsVector" with file manager

- delete selected "Default directory" and restart Locus

- set new path to your mapVector and restart Locus

I now tried to copy the map that was not working to another folder on the phone... Now all maps work but they are in two different folders: 4 working maps on the SD-card and one on the phone, where memory is scarce. Crazy!

That shows that the problem is neither the files nor the copy mechanism...

Is there a limitation of how many maps are shown?

nope, no limits. Error on your screenshot is really only possible, when map file is incorrect, so internal loader cannot read it. Hmm weird, not sure how may I help you as I do not remember that such problem occur last months. Is that possible verification of downloaded files over MD5/checksum? Not sure if owner of OpenAndroMaps supports it.

Hi Menion,

I have the same problem that Princha since i reset my locus apk

Only sqlitedb loaded with locus works. (not sqlitedb from for example mpc2mapc)

Rmaps and vector maps wich works fine last year bug now.

I tried to load them from sd of internal, but no success.

I think that i had problems to load raster maps since Locus Map_3.21.1 so i used old version locusfree_343_3.5.3_release.apk, locusfree_451_3.15.3_release.apk

I think that problem occur during the start of the apk when apk require 4g connection to begin.

I am so disappointed and hope you'l fine the solution.

Good day heddo,

based on your screenshots, you really have two maps in MapsForge vector format *.map and two maps in CompeGPS raster format "*.rmap". How to handle maps, Locus decide by it's extensions. So if extensions are incorrect, Locus Map is unable to load map.

Anyway based on errors you see, there is definitely some problem with validity of your files. There had to be some problem with copy operation, so I suggest to copy maps into your device with different technique.

Good day, Menion,

Thanks for your answer.

I have no problem to use the same 'false' files on my old Wiko Goa with locusfree_451_3.15.3_release.apk So i think that the problem occurs during the first initialisation of the apk wich nessessite internet connection.

Can you explain what happens during this first initialisation? Why is it necessary? Does that initialisation change from last year?

(Of course y will never reset my old Wiko;-)

I tried some different conversions with mapc2mapc and 3 types of files works:

sqlitedb

otrk2

rmap

but i have the same problem with vector and rmap wich works fine on my old Wiko an wich worked also fine last year on my Samsung A3.

I can't understand.

Old files works on my goa but it's impossible to add new rmap and vector map (same error message)

I upload new vector map on bbbike and it works on my samsung.

hard to understaand...

Good day heddo,

I do not have any reports from other users about some problems with any map format, so I'm sure, it is some issue with map files itself.

Firstly, do not copy map files over MTP from your computer. I remember, there were some problems with copied data. Rather copy data directly to SD card or over any web service.

Also, please share one problematic map file with me, so I may test it and confirm that file is ok or not.

Thanks

And first initialization after app install just download necessary libraries and global elevation file. Nothing that should influence loading of maps.

Good day, Menion,

Thanks for your answer.

Could it be possible that map files became corrupted while copied on usb memory?

This could explain my problem.

Here two files that are working on an old locus version on my Wijko but no more on my Samsung

Good day heddo,

firstly thanks for a maps and patience. Indeed, copy of maps from PC over USB may cause a problems, it is well known fact and I was almost sure it is this problem!!

I'm really sorry, but issue is in this case on my (Locus Map) side. I have, thanks to your shared maps, found small issue in handling Lambert projection here. Issue will be fixed in next Locus Map version next week.

Sorry for a complications!

Hello heddo,

thanks for sharing of your file. This map is anyway really not valid. More precisely, map has size 77 MB, but is completely empty. So suggest to download your vector map again.
