Quick GPS toggle
Declined
I look forward to easy way to toggle between GPS switched on and off.
Current GPS button opens GPS screen. What about enable gesture:
when swipe down the button GPS is toggled immediately.
Or exchange behavior: toggle on click and GPS screen on hold.
tap - an hold(!) the gps symbol on the top panel. [3]

Tap and hold just launches another menu. It is faster to go through the GPS menu than tap and hold and another tap on small menu.

Oh Granny, what big eyes you`ve got!

And what if another application is also using GPS (simultaneously)?
Android 4.0 and higher has a GPS switch through the taskbar. For older ones get Widgetsoid or something else.
Just saying: I manage my phone and Locus manages Locus, ok?

myneur, how often are you enabling/disabling gps during a day? I think it`s max few times per hour if you`re crazy battery saver :). I think, current three-tap solution is good enough, sorry

As long as Locus assumes GPS (or i.e. a location provider) is switched on, it tries to get the location and eats at least little battery -> I switch off GPS (or ie. the Location provider button) in Locus.
The GPS switch in Android system only *allows* usage of GPS, it does not switch usage on and to my knowledge eats no or almost no battery.
This is my experience with Samsung S1,2,3.

I may confirm this.
- switch for GPS in system really only allow/disallow usage of GPS. So if no application require GPS, then it consume no power.
- switch in Locus enable/disable searching for available GPS modul and if GPS is enabled in system switch, it also cause that system start GPS and Locus start receiving Locations. Anyway if switch is turned off in system and turned on in Locus, I think that CPU usage in Locus will be also really really low (but not 100% zero, only almost)

It depends how much of my battery is drained at the end of mapping day. When navigating for a whole day, it starts to be the issue as battery goes down.
Point is that hitting this button is mostly because to toggle GPS. Rarely by some geeks to see a fancy screen with satelites.
Although there would be a learning curve for new users, it is addressable by:
- toggling GPS immediately
- showing a message telling about it with button to show a fancy stcreen if he want
Locus sometimes switch-off GPS also by itself (probably when app is on background). I expect there is a bug in auto-switch GPS settings. I don`t see a system when those errors occurs, but its for another a bug thread.
