Hello uawg,

all logins and credentials to various services are not included in backup. So it's save to restore backup on difference device.

I don't like leaving easy questions on later, because there is high risk I forget on them

What data is contained in the "backup settings only"?

So if I share my backup settings with new users, and dashboard (I figured I could tell my friends to copy my dashboard file into their dashboard folder), then they can start using Locus Map immediately. But let's say I want to share on a public forum. Is there any location and identifiable information in the backup? Like my most recent GPS coordinates, names, email address?

I think it is useful to share my settings, when I want to introduce my friends to Locus Map, because it takes 3 hours to really get familiar with all of the functions, and 2 hours of riding to experiment with the dashboard and navigation. But I don't want "identifiable" information to be transmitted.

What extra information does the full backup contain, compared to the settings only?

Thanks

And also dashboard files.

Hello Mememe,

backup is not made with "public sharing" in mind. So there are some historical locations (last known), some information about the position and center of map etc. Email addresses and passwords are in backup to (should not be in the readable form), but these values should be correctly restored only on the same device. So generally, except few location parameters (that will be overwritten right after app start), there should be no worry to share backup of settings with your friends. On the second side, the app contains a really huge number of settings, so if you will have an option to restore the backup on different device and check yourself, it will be best.

Full backup then contains mainly your points/tracks database, dashboards, custom icons, and few other things. You may check on your own. Backups are simple zip files.

Do dashboard files contain any identifiable information? Can other people simply drop the dashboard file into the dashboard folder? Thanks

In the dashboard editor is an option to write any name/description etc. information directly into dashboard file. So when you share it, other users may see these metadata.

And yes, every dashboard is a single file so you may simply grab it from Locus/data/dashboard directory and share it.
