Size of settlement names too small (maps and map themes)

Hi,

I usually have the problem that the names of cities/towns are to small to read. Only while I zoom in I can read them but when I stop to zoom. The letters are too small again. Very, very seldom it looks as it should.

I don't understand what's going wrong. Is it a problem of settings or something other....

First of all to understand is:

Is a installed map theme 100% dependent for a map. Or may I use every map theme for every map?

Second. Which size setting is the corresponding one for city names? (Settings > Maps > Map objects -> Text size ? - here I have 100% set)

Hello Wolfgang,

to change the text size for LoMaps or other vector maps: please open Menu > Settings > Map > Offline maps > Text size. Here you can change the value. This affects all texts in the map.

However Could I ask you what theme do you use, please? Is it internal theme?

Hi Petr,

ok there I also have set 100%.

I use different Themes and maps and the problem exists almost ever. I have the "classic map" theme and mostly I use the Elevate4 from openandromaps (http://www.openandromaps.org/en/legend/elevate-mountain-hike-theme) The HiLo seems to work best.

I'll attach two screenshots with the LoMaps South Germany. One with "Classic Map Theme" and one with HiLo Theme. It's exactly the same position only the Theme has changed. You'll see my problem.

The "funny" thing is, that here on the computer I'm almost able to read the names with the Classic Theme but on my device I even don't see that there are written any names.

And no my eyes are not so bad ;)

Has it maybe to do with the screen resolution? I have a Moto X Force.

Dear Wolfgang,

yes, it's caused by resolution of your device. It's resolution is very likely bigger then resolution of you laptop/pc but the phone display is lats say 4x smaller the pc display. This is the reason why you can read the captions on PC but on phone are very tiny.

There are two possible solution:

1. Use the theme where text size is related with the screen resolution or text size is bigger and more readable

2. Increase the text size for offline vector map in mentioned settings: Menu > Settings > Map > Offline maps > Text size - you can set for example 300%

However I would suggest first solution - to choose the theme that is readable by default.

Hi Petr,

hmm I played now a lot with different themes, maps and size settings. On each combination I need different size settings. I now understood the problem but it's for the moment not really a solution. Because I sometimes switch often between maps and themes and so it's not handy to change every time the size.

I see but we are limited in this situation. Our community creates different theme and we cannot prepare some automatic "text size" tools because it's needed to respect the definition of map theme. I can only suggest to use the themes from the same creator (elevate, Locus internal themes, etc) I guess that themes from one source should be similar.
