Support Always-On Display of Samsung Galaxy S8 and other new phones

Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ and probably the Google Pixel XL and other new Amoled-Phones feature an Always-On-Display that surprisingly uses almost no energy (around 1-2% battery per day). Its white on black mostly, but having Locus put interesting stuff there (track recording info, navigation instructions, basically everything available for dashboards) would be extremely useful.

I have no clue about APIs, but I have seen apps put their own thingy there. It might be worth looking into.
