The latest version of Locus Map is so slow
Solved
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4... and yes I know it's an old phone.
It was running v3.37.2 without any problems but the latest update has caused such a massive slowdown that I'm going to have to reinstall the older version.
The app takes much longer to open and the new rendering engine is painfully slow to use.
Are these issues that can be resolved of should I just go back to v3.37.2 and stick with it?
I just wish I hadn't updated and left well alone :(
Hello,
Galaxy S4 is a perfectly fine device that should still work without serious problems. We tested together with many users on Locus forum this version for almost two months and I do not remember any serious complains on the slowdown. Anyway, everything is possible. May you please write me short info about what exactly is slow related to the map? Moving with the map without zooming is slower then before or this "slowness" affect only zooming? Also, are you using any overlays or WMS maps?
Some delay when the opening was already reported and I'll definitely look on it during next days.
The downgrade is always possible, older versions are available here (last link). In this case, suggest to backup your settings over the Backup manager.

Hi :)
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly.
When first opening the app I get a black blank screen for about 8 seconds before a box appears saying WAITING... (with the GPS logo) pops up for a about 4 seconds.
After this Locus Maps is pops up running but with no map displayed until it appears.
The fading in of the map tiles is painfully slow, taking over 10 seconds just to display a 75km range on the screen... on the previous version is was probably around a second.
Because of this zooming in and out and panning around is very slow... almost useable because of the lag.
I guess if I downgrade I'm going to have to reinstall and my data etc... bit worried about this I've spent a lot of time customising Locus and creating my own data environment for 2 1/2 years (I carry out a daily automated backup).

Hello,
fine, downgrade won't be necessary I believe, this has to have a solution.
If you think that "fading animation" is a major slowdown, you may disable it.
To do it: enable Expert settings and in this settings disable "Polish user experience" (or something similar, we already renamed it and I do not know its original title). Give it a try and let me know if it helped. Thanks

Among possible disabling of "fading", which I still think won't have a major effect, you may give a try to just published new Beta version 3.38.0.1 so give it a try if you will have a free moment.

Hi :)
I did turn off "Polish user experience" but as you'd already suspected it did nothing.
Interestingly turning off "Map hardware acceleration" also made no difference... I thought it would slow down even more but nothing changed.
I'll give the Beta version a try and let you know how I get on.
Many thanks for your support on this issue.

How do I download the Beta version. The link only allows me to sign up as a Beta tester for the free version?

In the mentioned article is wrote: "Locus Map Free Beta version is almost fully functional as the Locus Map Pro". So yes, Beta versions are published under Locus Map Free also to keep Locus Map Pro stable and fully working.

Sorry I use Locus Map everyday and I don't want to mess it up by installing the free version.
Can Locus Map Pro be directly downgraded with an older version or do I have to reinstall the application again from scratch?

Sure, then you have to wait on update.
The downgrade of any application on Android is not possible. It is needed to uninstall and install from APK file manually. Part of app settings will be anyway lost by this operation, so a backup of settings over "Backup manager" is recommended.

Hi,As a couple of new versions were recently released, I thought I'd take them for a spin to see if the opening and map rendering speeds had improved.
Unfortunately nothing much has changed.
Using Google's maps is lightning fast, but local maps are still very slow :-(
I found my wife's old Moto G 1st Gen and this is running the older version of Locus Map faster than the most recent version on my S4.
I guess I'll just have to live with it.
Thanks for your support :)

It is still a work in progress.
You may read here on forum few reactions on the two days ago published Beta version.
There is still some space for improvements and I'll definitely work on it next weeks, so I believe, the app will be again fully useful as before. Just a little patience, please. Thanks for understanding.

No problem...
Being a complex piece of software it can't be easy processing all the bugs and issues whilst covering so many devices etc.
I ran it up yesterday on my Nvidia Shield tablet and found it had rendering issues until the "Optimize raster map resolution" was switch off... the rendering was very soft.
I'll move my observations to the forum page you linked to as directing input to you from multiple sources can't be helpful.
Thnaks for all you support... it's very much appreciated :)
