It would be useful if there is an easy way to see the distance between your actual position up to a point in track, that is, distance between two points in track you`re following. Usually I do it subtracting the distance to the end of the two desired points.
Tool to measure distance between 2 trackpoints along the track
Hello,
It would be nice to have a way to measure the distance between 2 trackpoints of a track, but not just with a straight line, as it's already possible. It should compute the distance along track. This is much more precise.
Actually I do this by subtracting the "to end" distances from the 2 trackpoints I get from information screen of each trackpoint. It would save a lot of time and avoid user doing math.
No need to be fancy. It could work like the tool "cut part of track" in the "Edit on map". Select the first trackpoint, select the second and it would show distance, time diference, altitude variation, etc.
As a plus, it could use the nearest trackpoint of the current position as the first trackpoint and the nearest trackpoint of a selected POI for the second trackpoint.
It would be useful when Hikking and following a pre-recorded track. Suppose I want to know how much distance I have to walk until I reach a known place with water or a POI. This way, I just have to use the tool to compute it quickly, instead of estimating from a straight line or subtracting distances from trackpoint information.
I would happily write an addon to do that, if it's possible.
Thanks in advance!
I was asked about that in my Locus Map Pro Webinars several times, now. Seems to be implemented in Oruxmaps as people mention this function there.

Here a Screenshot, how it works in oruxmaps. Nice and simple.

I think this function would be easy to implement and would make Locus even better. I have seen many small improvements like this along the years. So, this one is in the spirit of the App, I guess.

I would love it very much!

I also requested something similar to this( distance from my gps position to some distant point along the navigation path) here:
http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/distance-to-specific-point-in-navigation-mode
but I would be happy with implementation of measured distance between any 2 points along the track( I will select the first point as my actual GPS position) :)

From my point of view, this function would be more interesting for the current track than for old tracks recorded some days ago.
For saved track it's possible to estimate distance between any 2 waypoints as difference between 2 values "Distance to the end of track"

For distance from current position to another location on the map, I use "Line to GPS". For distance between any two points, I use "Quick measurement".

Both techniques are strictly linear and don't follow a track's zig-zags ... but so what. An underestimation by a few hundred meters (or less) for short distances? As the saying goes "Good enough for government work."
