track edit buttons (Tool, Left, Right) ignore tapping

Andrew Heard shared this problem 9 years ago
Solved

While creating this topic I noticed several times tapping the track edit buttons (Tool, Left, Right) stopped working i.e. are ignored. Note in screen cap below the Left and Right buttons are both gray.

Not sure of exact sequence but often happens after sequence of moving with <> then edit location.

I'm sure, current situation is a lot lot better, then was few months ago. I changed system of handling tracks during edit a lot. Anyway as I see, it is still not perfect.

Thanks, I'll try to keep my eyes open (you too please). Most important is to find exact step-by-steps, which leads to this problem, so I may simply simulate it and find out why this happen ...

> find exact step-by-steps

yes I tried & tried, but it generally happens after lots of edits, and I can't determine a simple sequence yet, will certainly let you know if I can. I think the next Locus version will have more changes (as I read this busy forum topic so will wait until then. thank you.

I can say it still happens quite regularly in 3.8.2. If I use BRouter, no Compute Instructions, then move (left/ right, but generally just right when heaving editing) between track points, it doesn't take too many taps before both Left & Right buttons will be disabled. It happens on both Sony Xperia Z1 phone & Samsung Galaxy tablet. Is it a timing glitch/ race condition in the code? If I tap long enough various other places often enough I can unfreeze the buttons.

Hmm interesting, have to check it once more, thanks!

Another observation where this bug manifest: a couple of times yesterday as soon as I tapped the track on the map > Edit on map, the Left/ Right buttons were already disabled. Maybe one in 20 times, maybe more often, I didn't check, but happened twice and I couldn't have edited that track more than 20 times, probably 10 max. You may then ask: is it related to a specific track - I don't think so, because has happened on a few tracks since I originally reported a month ago. Not a big problem for me.

Hmm you pushed me to check once more handling of points with left/right arrows and I found even more serious issue ... now I;m anyway not sure if this fix also your problem or not :). So we will see in next version, thanks for now!

Unfortunately today with 3.9.1.5 I again experienced this problem. I was using long tap on forward/ reverse buttons during track edit, then suddenly the forward button is disabled, even though the first point is clearly selected in this screen cap:

Hmm oki, and any steps to reproduce it?

It's difficult to reproduce timing issues, but seems related to user speed, was when I had out/back track on same road (I don't think this matter for the test), and frustration of lots of tapping to get to outward point. Maybe quickly switching between first & last points with long taps on left/right buttons? This was first time since your last code change, but always related to "heavy duty" track editing.

Now I find an easy way to reproduce. Have a track with start/ finish at the same point, and out/ return along same path - not sure if this is important but use anyway. Exact sequence - error every time

  • Long tap left --> moves to first track point, left button disabled OK
  • Long tap right --> move to last track point, but left button still disabled and right button should be disabled.
