Hello,

I would like to know the usefullness of the export track options:

1.Track as route(RTE tag instead of TRK) -- which softwares/devices need this for navigation? if I import the .gpx with normal TRK tag in garmin montana, would i will not be able to use it as route?

2.GPX version 1.0 or 1.1 when should I use each one? I see 1.1 contain more data (heart rate)

Good day Marius,

settings for "track as RTE" is quite old and to be true, I do not even remember, what was the real reason of this settings. Anyway as in many cases of Locus settings, If you do not have need to change anything, simply do no change it and ignore such settings. Because I do no own any Garmin device, I cannot say how with exported track works in your device. Simply try it and you will see.

GPX v. 1.0 is in Locus only for compatibility reasons with some older softwares. Generally it contains a lot less information and recorded values. So if you do not directly need version 1.0, do not use it.

Hope I've answered you. Maybe any user who use "Track as RTE" will give you better answer about usage of this settings. As I think about it, it will worth to test, it this settings is even used at all and if it worth to remove it completely.

My guess, was probably asked to be imported into a (garmin) gps that did not read a track (trk) ?

Route (rte) out by Locus generation delivers a 'direct' route (= very similar to a normal track(trk).

More Info: About 'normal' and 'direct' (rte) routes.

See section route. Dutch language !

http://ridewithgps.com/help/export-file-formats

In section about gpx 'normal' rte routes: Conclusion =

"GPX Routes are not as useful and should be avoided"

I would use it for my garmin montana(to import a RTE gpx from locus) because I only need to follow an off-road route with my garmin

Problem is that garmin route only accpets 50 via points..and my track had 2000-3000 points. I had filtered the route with gps Babel (JaVaWa RTWTool also works) to only 50 points and that routed me through the town.

But in the wilderness, off-road, a rte route with 50 points in my Garmin is not usefull to follow the track recorded with Locus

So maybe anybody more in the knowlegde can point out the usefullness of RTE .gpx

I would use the .TCX export , but garmin Montana,Oregon does not know to read .TCX format( for audio guidance)
