Translation in french
Hi,
I use crowdin to help to translate Locus in french.
I have an issue with a sentence which is one word : Time
This word could be translate in several ways in french (for example, what time is it and Once upon a time will be not translate in the same way)
And in the track details part, the translation is bad.
But I don't know where this sentence is used in Locus :
- if only in the track details, I will change the translation and all will be ok.
- if in the track details and some others places, I need to know if one translation will be ok for all. Because if not, it is a bug of Locus, the word should be 2 times in crowding to be able to translate it in 2 different ways in french
So my question is : how can I know where the sentence 'Time' is used in Locus ?
Best regards
Fred
Hi Fred,
thank you very much for contributing to Crowdin. But could you please comment Crowdin issues directly on Crowdin? Here we don't know which strings in particular are affected. Thanks for understanding.

What a surprise !!!
I thought that the files "core", "locus, basic (general texts)", "locus basic 'preferences texts", "locus GIS", "locus map" and "strings.xml" which contain the root texts that you need to translate in any language were yours and that you send these files to crowdin (each files with an ID for each text you want to be translated). I didn't know that crowdin was so independant that it was they who decide everything.
Thanks for your answer, I will ask them
Best regards.

Hi Fred,
of course the files "core", "locus, basic (general texts)", "locus basic 'preferences texts", "locus GIS", "locus map" and "strings.xml" are ours but for preserving and proper understanding of the context we need they are commented on Crowdin. Thanks.

Hi,
Nobody gives me the answer I need but I found something else :
- when I look at "Climb" in crowdin, I can see that this word is in your files 2 times with a context very clear : "title of a category in tracks detail laps tab" and "type of route compute - foot mode, alpine terrain"
- when I look at "Time", there is no context so impossible to know where it it used (that the subject of this topic) but I'm pretty sure that this word is used more than once.
And in french :
- once upon a time = il était une "fois"
- what time is it = quelle "heure" est il
- I had a good time in this race = j'ai fait un bon "temps" dans cette course
- it's the best time to see flowers in nature = c'est la meilleure "période" pour voir des fleurs dans la nature
Could you changed the type of this topic from "answered" to "problem", split all the 'Time' you have in Locus to several 'Time" like for Climb and tell to crowdin the context of each "Time" ?
Best regards
Fred

Hi Fred,
we're very sorry for not answering you on Crowdin - Crowdin for some unknown reason stopped to send notifications about context requests to administrators and we simply didn't know about your requests. As for the "time" issue - the "time" string is used 15x in app... almost always it is a physical quantity:
- chart of the track, X axis
- top panel during navigation, current "time"
- custom Live-tracking, one of variables
- QR code generator
- "Quick add point", some title created from "date" and "time"
- "Quick www bookmark", one of variables for Url
- variable in logging of GC trackables
- item in "track laps"
The rest is sort of repetition of these strings. Do you think these strings need two or more contexts of "time" in French? If yes, please let us know. Many thanks.

Hi Michal,
thanks a lot for these details, just what I wanted.
And sorry but my answer will be not complete because I use only the Free version (perfect for me, no need more)
Here the translations I would use :
- chart of the track, X axis -- Temps
- top panel during navigation, current "time" -- Heure (ou Heure actuelle)
- custom Live-tracking, one of variables -- (Locus PRO) ?
- QR code generator -- (Locus PRO) ?
- "Quick add point", some title created from "date" and "time" -- (Locus PRO) ? (but Heure looks the good translation)
- "Quick www bookmark", one of variables for Url -- (Locus PRO) ?
- variable in logging of GC trackables -- (Locus PRO) ?
- item in "track laps" -- Périodes
Now I think we have 2 solutions :
- you or someone of your team put here some screenshots to be able to see the true context of each "PRO Time" -> with that I'm pretty sure I will be able to give you a complete answer
- or find someone who has the PRO version and could complete my answers
Best regards
Fred

Hi Fred,
thank you for clarifying this issue. So in French there are three types of "time":
- current time (time of the day) - Heure
- lap time - time passed on a defined distance - Périodes or Temps au tour
- time generally as a physical quantity - Temps
Strings with idioms "current time" and "lap time" are already within the app so we just have to put them on the right places - everywhere where just "time" is used.
Is that right?

Time of day ; heure
Time as a Duration : durée or temps
In some case you can precise: temps de parcours or temps de trajet or temps intermédiaire
I would not use période except on very specific cases not sure relevant in Locus
E.g on a period if 10 years I have been there 10 times 》période

Hi Fred,
so we changed "time" to other, more accurate alternatives - current time, lap time or log time so hopefully the the French translation will be better understood. Will take effect in the next Locus version.
