Two things not working anymore in 3.32.0

Solved

Hi,

in version 3.32.0 two things are not working anymore:

1.) I cannot save a geocache as found without entering anything in the field notes. As I don't upload my field notes to geocaching.com, it is fine for me not to have anything in there. It used to work, but now Locus insists on having something in the field note.

2.) On startup, Locus shows an information that it is about to start recording the track. There is a red square in this box, which used to cancel the recording. Pressing the red square now, does nothing.

Thank you,

Andreas

Good day Andreas,

first "problem" is correct change. In older verison, it was possible to leave this field empty, but when uploading field notes to the web over Locus Map, app throws a problem that note is not valid. So to prevent such a problem, the note has to be filled with some text. Feel free to use "Pre-fill field notes" option in geocaching settings maybe just with your short signature. I believe it won't be a problem.

The second problem was already reported and will be fixed in next, soon coming version.

Thanks for a bug report and wish you a nice day.

Hi Menion,

I just wanted to report also the first problem. I think it is absolutely one. I also log offline and sometimes I log inside locus. But always I transfer my fieldnotes.txt to GSAK. Now I get there a problem if I always import stupid things put into the log section because now I have all this stupid stuff inside GSAK :((

I think the better way is to display an error message if someone wants to publish an empty log online. He is the one making wrong things, not the others who log offline.

For me that is an important feature as it worked before.

Please rethink the behavior.

Thanks Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

oki but consider people that log caches offline and that later push their logs online to geocaching.com server (like me). They then get an error that their 50 logs are incorrect and need manual fix one by one? Little crazy.

I believe that a lot more common will be logging offline and later upload directly over Locus then upload over any external program. Anyway, what messages you write in GSAK? There is no common text that you repeat always, like your signature?

I'm thinking about how to fix this. If I allow storing empty notes, then I need to create some method that allows easily edit existing field notes before uploading to gc.com, which may simply be a complex task for more logs ... hmm, any idea how to satisfy both sides?

Hi Menion,

thanks for your thoughts :D

One of the biggest reasons I don't log online is, that I want to send the Owner some text and not only a "TFTC" and I also don't have the time in the field. With my home keyboard I write better logs as with my mobile device.

And really nothing does repeat inside my logs - even not the signature. I'm individual ;)

BTW I often make notes inside the locus log section. Because of that my fieldnotes go directly in the notes section in GSAK and not to the log section. When there is any text inside the notes section in GSAK this Geocache gets an extra marker - so all caches would have a marker now...

All people I know using locus log offline and do later the log on the home computer.

Coming back to hopefully a solution, I have an idea but I don't know if this makes sense because I'm not familiar how locus online logging works.

What about the following:

* on first empty field note someone "writes" -> one warning message with explanation why he should write a log text

* preflight check over all logged caches before sending them to geocaching.com - if empty then error message that the person has to review x number of geocaches to put a log to

I don't think you need to point to the problem geocache. If people learn that an empty log could no more be uploaded then they will learn to write logs.

* maybe a config switch to allow/disallow empty field notes

What do you think. Would this be a possible way?

Thanks Wolfgang

Thanks for feedback Wolfgang,

in new version, this is improved so it's again possible to set empty comment. I'll deal with consequences later :).

Just today I was out and I did some caches later while logging with GSAK I deleted all these log notes manually.

Thank you so much that makes me happy again :D
