Usability of Mapitems
Gathering feedback
Hello,
Though I do like the latest improvements of the Mapitems (for me it very much reduces the desire to have categories for internal track management), I think there are some "flaws" in there:
- no alphabetic sorting for directories, file names are working fine
- no "deeper" subdirectory levels ?!?
- as the mapitems file names can get pretty long, currently no way anymore to see enough of it in order to recognize. In previous version, one got at least in the landscape mode enough visible text, but now gets immediately the info box over the list of file names....no easy overview anymore. So why not showing it like in the portrait mode, only when touched?
- a smaller font height (configurable?) Would be great in addition.
Regards
I did the same in the map "export" but the readibility is the same problem.
A hideble info-box would help.

hey jtkorken
You post all of this as an Locus"Problem". I think this are wishes or ideas.

please create a new idea topic.

- as the mapitems file names can get pretty long
to rename files is allowed...

these are really small tasks. I`ll look at them today and respond here. They`re really too small so leave it without creating new ideas. Anyway changing topic to "Idea" and thanks Gynta ;)

Hello,
many thanks for the comments, but just for "justification" purposes :-), I put it here for the listing was already better readable in former versions, "chaotic" sorting order is also not a feature, right :-),...thanks again.
Best Regards

so ...
- no alphabetic sorting for directories, file names are working fine
done
- no "deeper" subdirectory levels
no, whole system on all screen allows only one sub-directory level, that`s enough for 99% people I think
- as the mapitems file names can get pretty long ...
did you tried long-click on items?
- a smaller font height (configurable?) Would be great in addition.
I used wrong font scaling so font size in your system have no effect on this settings. In new version will have "font size" settings in your system effect on this as well. Separate settings like "font size of items in Map manager" looks like non sense for me

Hello Menion,
sorry bringing this subject up again, but the MapItem screen (visibility of actual MapItem file names) is still very unhandy. One cannot identify the wanted item in the list at a glance. One has always to (long) press every item, which is really anoying, when want the right one among a lot others. Even landscape mode does not help...and as you have decided currently not to go for "real" Track Categories the Mapitem feature is in principle a usable surrogate, while waiting for you to realize Track-Categories are actually a good idea :-)

Map items really need to remember their enabled/disabled state across quits/restarts/reboots, otherwise they are quite useless. It may take a long time to set them up as required and losing this work by simply quitting is not an option.
