Using a Locus Screenshot on my Blog

Hi,

I'm using Locus Pro together with maps from OpenAndroMaps.

On my next big bike trip I want to do some daily blogging about my journey and would love to show a screenshot of my days progress on my non-commercial blog.

Now, as my free wordpress.com-Blog does not give me the possibilities to install any Plugins that could display GPX Tracks on a Map (and let users scroll about), I thought the easiest way to incorporate my daily achievement would be using the screenshot from Locus, as I will be Tracking my Progress via Locus anyway.

Locus Pro offers the perfect setting as you can share your achieved tracks, even direct to my wordpress-App!

I have attached a picture of the automatically compiled Locus-Screenshot, this is basically exactly what I'd like to add to my Blog.

Now I'd only like to know: Am I allowed to share these Locus-generated screenshots on my Blog? Are there any legal issues, as it is generated in the app and shows OSM-Material in the map?

Can I just attach the screenshot?

Does the screenshot need a citation to Locus and/or OSM underneath the Picture?

Is it not allowed at all?

Would be very happy to know if it is possible.

Regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

please, do so as often as you want! That's why there is the "share track overview" option - for websites, blogs, social networks etc. No problem with OSM data either. And if you are interested, we'll gladly promote your travel blog on our blog/facebook etc. What's more, if you add a link to Locus website http://www.locusmap.eu to your blog (or link the screenshots there), we'll be absolutely happy :)

cheers!

Michal

This feature has changed behavior, and I'm now being presented an error when trying to generate a track overview. The error says "This feature is available only with particular maps e.g. LoMaps by Asamm SW. Go to Locus Store." This occurs when I'm using OpenAndromaps (derived from Open Street Maps).

This feature worked with these maps for years, but seems to have stopped functioning with a recent update.

Jason, there should be no limitation on LoMaps, OpenAndroMaps should work correctly as well. Do you have a map for the area of your track? Latest Locus Map version? May you post a screenshot of this error? Thanks

The error was happening on Locus Map Pro 3.35.2, using the 2018.08.25 version of the California vector map installed from here: locus-actions://https/http://www.openandromaps.org/wp-content/library/xml/California.xml.

The phone is a pixel2 running Android 9 at current patch levels.

I've attached the error message. This has worked with previous versions of Locus and this edition of the OpenAndroMaps file.

While looking for the specific map URL I noticed there's been an update to this map just this week, so I downloaded the latest version of the map (2018.12.23) and the error no longer occurs. If it makes a difference, the icon for the new map indicates that this new edition is a "VECv3" map, where the previous was a "VECv2" map. I've also attached a now successful overview using the updated map.

Hello Jason,

interesting to be true, but glad it is solved now. The generator is really not usable only with LoMaps, but will all V3 maps, so maybe this was a problem. Interesting is, that this feature does not change for a very very long time.
