Good evening guys, happy Halloween :) Because my phone missing gyroscope and compass sensors ( yes my phone is one of the 1% of smartphones without this feature) and I really need compass for trekking and hiking , also for identify peaks and hills. Is it possible to use a smartwatch provided with GPS and Bluetooth compass to use external sensors to interface with map? Thank you, I don't want buy another phone... I don't care of money waste, it was only a moral question, my phone is quite good and works fine, no need to retire my phone anticipately...

Hello Maurizio,

first of all let me tell you that I really like your motives that you don't like to just toss out perfectly working phone just because of some lacking features.

I am afraid though that what you are asking would be very difficult and the functionality limited because providing these external data would only tell the phone how the watch is oriented in space. That might provide some hint i.e. what direction you might be facing. But still, I think the resulting overall experience and usability would not be worth quite significant developing effort that could be invested in making some other cool features for the Wear add-on that more users could enjoy.

Hi Milan, thank you for answering. First, I'm knowing very well that I search something very hard to obtain. And surely my intention was not to ask for moon or Mars or climb a mirror. I have chance to receive a smartwatch with compass an GPS built in, altimeter, barometer temperature and other useful functions for a very few charge of money. Also blood pressure, and heart rate data logger. So even if exchange of data via Bluetooth does not match my lack of sensors, it may be help me with trekking routes. Ok stop bothering you, thanks again, have a nice day.

Hello Maurizio,

I was talking specifically about using external gyro and compass to get some usable reading for a phone map, which is really quite difficult because I could not easily make out meaningful reading for a phone map based on your wrist rotation and generally orientation in space and with high enough refresh rate for it to be useful.

I would like to spent such developing effort with other features and other sensors you have mentioned are definitely among them. In the latest version we have added HRM support which now can be synchronized with Locus Map. That being said, there are still problems with the synchronization on some devices so we definitely plan on spending more time fixing the watch-to-phone synchronization and deeper sensor integration. But gyro and compass most probably won't be included.

Thank you for understanding.

Best Regards

Hi Milan, Don't worry, I understand very well and I'm right with you,

I take occasion to ask if you may apologize me for my previous post.

It seems to be I'm mad or angry or rude, not my intention.

I always respect and admire people like you and rest of staff also, for your very good job.

English is not my native language you know, and is it possible some misunderstanding.

So may you accept my excuses?

Thank you and have a very nice time.

Hi Maurizio,

thank you for the message but there is really no problem and no need to excuse. Plus I am always happy for any feedback or tips from our users which can help us improve the app even though for various reasons we cannot of course implement all of them.

Hope you will continue to enjoy Locus Map and again, sorry I could not help you more in this instance.

Have a nice day,

Milan

Good Evening Milan.

Continue to enjoy THE app ? I'm totally in LOVE with this app.

This don't depend from app, but it's a lack of my phone.

I do Voodoo every day but don' work... phone is still alive. :) Just joking haha.

For now i turn for Peakfinder A.R From Fabio Soldati, you certainly know.

This app works also with GPS only and I have just to point view manually to identify correct skyline.

When my phone passed away I change with a model more technological... or better, with a compass :)

have a nice time.
